Compare it to another other model player that isn't an nmt and the same chipset and you'll see the list of bugs is much larger on them and things like mkv header compression don't play where the 100 series it will.

4 years of support for a product is more than any other media player supplier gives.

So they don't even intend to fix bugs anymore??? Huh
I had to dust off my A-100 because my A-210 died, and found that, with the latest firmware, disabling transitions for photo slideshows doesn't work -- the various transitions simply alternate when set to "off", which I find quite annoying... Undecided
I can understand not implementing new features, but halting development with bugs left unresolved? I guess that's one way to not build a loyal user base, and to discourage people from upgrading to another PCH product...

I realised and took into account your posts etc. and decided a friendly warning rather than the usual treatment was in order.

The A100 never had a firmware that you cannot update to online released. I have a A100 to this day and run the last stable which will be the last firmware as the 100 series is EOL.

I guess I didn't realize this was cross flashing. I just saw it mentioned above.

Subject dropped.

I just pulled my A-100 out of the closet (got shelved when I got my C-200) and was surprised at how many of my HD file formats it would play. The only problem I ran into was some wouldn't play audio. Then I read about the Soft DTS Downmix. I did update to the latest FW. Is this a modified FW or just an addon and is it something that can be removed if it causes problems? I realize it won't play HD audio.

A couple of my BR rips to MKV stuttered bad. I assume this is due to the limitations of the chip?

I guess there is still life in the old boy....

IIRC one of the resellers (dragontech) had something like this in their firmware.. but it was a test firmware and while kind of worked, it wasn't flawless and sometimes the power of the cpu was obviously not up to it.. these units really are just enough to play the video cpu wise.

I keep seeing people post about upgrading codecs though and my main reason to reply.. what codecs are you all running into that you can't play.. of course the hd audio things but with all these auto-tools now, it's really fast to add in an ac3 downmix upon download for lower end players.

Maybe it's now the time to have a "Soft DTS Downmix" Upgrade flash since there will be no future updates (EOL) anymore.

I've still not installed a Soft DTS Downmix because every time I want to do this Sybass release a new firmware.
It's been more than a year with the latest firmware. I was hoping they will release a new one after a year to support the latest codecs and the multiple language Sub/IDX subtitles.

Let's just say I outgrew it.

I bought the very first units when they came out and after a couple of years it just seemed slower and slower to me.

It's kinda like a laptop, when you get a new one it's really fast but after a couple of years it's just seems slower.

Or maybe it's because I was beginning to personalize it to my needs like stuffing oversight on it while running torrent downloads and streaming at the same time. It just got too much for what I wanted to do.

Admittedly I'm beginning to feel that now with the 200 series, but I'm not as interested in media players anymore as I once was when this gadget was still the "in" thing.

But don't let me dissuade you, you're lucky you're happy with it instead of gadget geeks like moi who seem to be always looking for the next gadget to spend money on.

P.S. What sold me to the 200 series was playing back TrueHD/DTSHD tracks within MKV. I don't like m2ts files as I don't own a PS3.

Really? Apart from playing BDs, what other advantages does 200 series has that sets it "miles apart" from A100? Not trying to be smartass here; I really want to know.

TBH I would like to hear it from Werner or another syabas emplyee to make it 100% official that it is EOL, although I am also pretty sure it is.

And in my A-110 experience, over those 4 years it has played ~85% of what I threw at it. The other 15% required manual intervention usually accompanied with a reboot of the device (IDX/SUB problems in 4 firmware releases, DVD over SMB playback stutter in one firmware release, MKV header compression support only in latest firmware)

To be honest i have much more problems with my C-200 compared with my A-100. C-200 is slower and has problems playing mkv (audio breaks due to network, or something else - cannot really find out). The only advantage for me at the moment is that you can play BDs.

But they seem to spread Sad Lately some mkv files wont play either.
