Hopefully not a dumb question..on the A110 do i need a PC to download torrent files? - theguru - 11-19-2008 11:34 AM

Before i buy one. on the a100 you needed a PC to download torrent files and then transfer them to the box. On the a110 can you download torrent files without the PC..and then activate them all within the box?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!!

Not a dunmb question at all, just give a little time to answer.

There is no difference between the A100 and the A110 in torrent abilities.

You still need a PC unless you set up an RSS feed for your .torrent files. Dont ask me about setting up RSS feeds i never got to gripse with utorrent's RSS feeds so havent tried torrents. In fact ive moved away from torrents to newsgroups.

Movong to torrents section.

Thanks but if you have a web browser (not sure it has) on it surely you can download the torrent from there?

You can setup torrentwatch to look out for your regular TV series or any film title. Once setup then you dont need a PC for new episodes etc.

As for a pugin it was muted to me in a PM by one of our members as a possibility for a MSP plugin. I disucssed the idea and with vuze and other areas to look at it was thought it may not be as popular as other plugins. Perhaps not what do others think?

Funny, I mentioned a similar topic months ago and tried to tackle it from several different angles - got no response from anyone.

1.) The MSP already has a plugin for bloglines, which allows you to setup RSS feeds and view them on the NMT. Most torrent sites have rss feeds, some have category specific ones, some even have rss feeds for torrents you've bookmarked. Many of these link directly to torrent files which will be saved to the client machine. As such the NMT already kinda supports browsing 'recent torrents' for most tracker sites.

2.)The NMT UI has the ability to load a .torrent file from disk, and start downloading it in BTPD.

However, the two don't work together. I can click on a torrent file from an rss feed and it does actually prompt me, asking me whether I want to start downloading it, but in most cases it doesn't then show in BTPD. Certain feeds work (btmon, from memory, does), but most don't. I couldn't on my own find any rhyme or reason for why some worked and some didn't, but I suspected it was something to do with redirection - some sites link to a file which redirects to a torrent file, and I think although it saw a torrent extension the redirection was a step too far. I was reaching though, and I never got any responses to any of my threads either in the torrent forums, or MSP forums.

Any kind of plugin that increased the amount of stuff I could do on screen would be appreciated - either a site-specific plug in, or a more general rss-based plug in, similar to bloglines, but where the last step of getting the torrent actually worked
(I currently use Torrentwatch, but maybe something more geared towards finding specific one-off items, using the tv and remote, whereas TW is more about series matching and config via a PC)

well it puzzles me it just seems dumb why you can't use a web browser (i'm sure with all the programmers here it could be done) to find the files you want and click on them and the torrent starts...ppl are saying that the easiet way is to your use your pc to transer to your PCH box then start it...although it is true...it is strange you have a very powerful machine and it just seems long winded and missing a basic browser to do this...also what about private trackers?

sorry for the questions guys/girls

Can someone tell me how to find CSI miami on the TVrss feed. can't find it there when i go to channel listing from my pc using torrentwatch. i see CSI NY. but not MIAMI. is it because they don't have it? or does the list change day by day?

Not sure the mods would want people linking to that sort of thing, we all rip our own DVDs of tv series you see Smile

For downloading NON copyright material, this forum does not advocate piracy.
