ISO bluray SMB access. freeze every 10 minutes - dygoon - 12-15-2010 10:59 PM Hi all, I have a problem accessing iso blurays over my home network. my config: win7 32bits server (Atom) with 4 disks mounted under d:/volumes/Jukebox all disks are WD green 1T and 2T. some are connected to a 5 sata ports lian-li pci card. Jukebox is shared with a user/pswd, read only Wired gigabits network popcorn c200 accessing the Jukebox shared folder (parent folder for the 4 disks). I did that to have 1 mount point only and allow to have a unified library for catalog tools When I access iso blurays, the A/V "freezes every" 10 minutes. Looking at the win7 monitor I noticed that there is a scan (short activity) on all disks that happens (one after the other) when A/V freezes. this seems to block access to the disk where blurays are and therefore stuck the popcorn. It seems to be linked to win7 as it happens when the box is off. I have no anti virus on the server. it's really annoying as I have to pause, wait for the scan to be completed and play again every 10 minutes... not fun ;-( it works like a charm with DVDs, music , photos, ... wired!!! I hope someone can help me ;-) thanks, alex RE: ISO bluray SMB access. freeze every 10 minutes - halfelite - 12-15-2010 11:44 PM It could be the atom cpu can not maintain the needed network transfer speed RE: ISO bluray SMB access. freeze every 10 minutes - nau - 01-03-2011 10:22 AM i have almost same setup except windows - i have XP and i had same problems when i installed Itunes. when i uninstalled it i never had this problem again RE: ISO bluray SMB access. freeze every 10 minutes - dygoon - 01-11-2011 09:55 PM Hi, I found the problem, it's due to a win7 (and vista) process called SuperFetch. I noticed that looking at the disk monitor. every 10 minutes, I had 20+ processes (svchost.exe (LocalSystemNetworkRestricted)) accessing various files on disks (all being DLLS and exe). I found a thread on another forum describing the problem. On a regular basis, windows preload applications to speed up access. pretty smart but useless for my server. So I went in the Services interface and stopped it. Since I did that, it's a lot better... It looks like I don't have this problem anymore. I hope this can help somebody else. best, alex (01-03-2011 10:22 AM)nau Wrote: i have almost same setup except windows - i have XP hi, Thanks for the info, in my case, iTunes was not the problem. see my answer below... best, alex |
