dts or ac3 DOES NOT work via HDMI - jlb777 - 12-03-2007 11:13 PM THE PROBLEM - Any mkv containers that are encoded with a DTS or AC3 track will NOT pass the audio signal via HDMI or Digital COAX to my Sony or Pioneer amp. AVI's that have been encoded with AC3 seem to be OK. - Same goes for ISO DVD images THE CONFIGURATION - As stated I connect via HDMI to my Sony STR DG910 Reciever and I get absolutley no DTS or AC3 audio stream from mkv or iso containers, my NMT is obviousley set to output in 5.1 and RAW for both DTS & AC3. THE HELP THAT IS NEEDED PLEASEEEEEEEEE - Reading around the forums I seem to find inconsistancy to the issues regarding sound, Should I be experiencing this issue? Does anyone else experience this problem? Is it a known bug? Will it be fixed in a new firmware? - peddler - 12-04-2007 12:11 AM With HDMI is does not. See: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=251 [PH] Yes, A-100 will pass DD or DTS sorround sound data thru coaxial SPDIF output. [PH] Not on current A-100 model. Multichannel decoding involve higher IP licensing costs with various codec IP owner. With Coax SPIF is does! I tested some mkv files with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. - jlb777 - 12-04-2007 12:42 AM Thanks for the reply, So the NMT does not pass AC3 or DTS over HDMI so that it can be decoded by my reciever? - edmc - 12-04-2007 01:49 AM jlb777 Wrote:So the NMT does not pass AC3 or DTS over HDMI so that it can be decoded by my reciever? Your question is really two questions: Q1 - So the NMT does not pass AC3 or DTS over HDMI? A1 - Correct, it does not. Q2 - ...so that [AC3 or DTS] can be decoded by my receiver? A2 - Incorrect. AC3 & DTS are passed over the SPDIF (CoAx Digital) to your receiver. I think the lumping of these two very distinct concepts made answering your question tough :-) - jlb777 - 12-04-2007 02:07 AM I have managed to resolve the issue..... My amp was set to prioritise PCM over digital audio streams such as DTS. Having set this to auto all is now well. DTS and DD\AC3 can be passed over HDMI from the NMT, so I stand corrected. - Hubert - 12-04-2007 05:02 PM edmc you are wrong - DTS and AC3 passthrough via HDMI works fine, I've used both myself. PH was referring to decoding DTS/AC3 to 5.1 PCM which is not possible. Passthrough is no problem. - daniel_owen_uk - 12-04-2007 05:05 PM Yup digital is digital. Set to raw and plug into your amp via HDMI or Digital coax and DTS/DD is all good
- wavemaster - 12-04-2007 05:34 PM Guys i am about to place an order, just wanted to double check.. Will i be able to get DTS/AC3 (MKV) out just using HDMI or any other needed cable just connecting to my LCD???? I dont have an A/V, and I do have a problem playing MKV with DTS audio using LIM player. AC3 plays ok though... Thanks in advance. - Woziak - 12-04-2007 05:43 PM wavemaster Wrote:Guys i am about to place an order, just wanted to double check.. The PCH does not decode DTS! So if your LCD isn't able to decode dts you won't get any sound with dts soundtracks. AC3 will be decoded to PCM so you kan listen to it on your LCD...
- Hubert - 12-04-2007 05:48 PM Wavemaster, check this thread for info: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=251&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 If what's written there is correct, you may have to use the Popcorn Hour analogue line output to get Stereo sound from DTS / AC3 5.1 audio files. On the HDMI or the Coax S/PDIF output, I believe you can only get full 5.1 DTS or AC3 passthrough. Your LCD TV may be able to decode AC3 5.1 and play it on the internal speakers, but probably not DTS. I'd recommend getting a separate receiver... - wavemaster - 12-04-2007 06:11 PM Hubert Wrote:Wavemaster, check this thread for info: Thanks mate, I guess its just a matter of trial. - edmc - 12-04-2007 09:53 PM Hubert Wrote:edmc you are wrong - DTS and AC3 passthrough via HDMI works fine, I've used both myself. Thanks for the correction/clarification. I apparently was operating on old information and it is great to hear DTS & AC3 over the HDMI 1.1 of the A100 works. I gather I need to set those to RAW to get this behavior as others have (again) pointed out that the A100 will not decode these to 5.1. Incidently, can 5.1 "fit" inside the A100's HDMI 1.1? I thought that HDMI 1.3a's higher bandwidth was necessary. - Woziak - 12-04-2007 10:45 PM edmc Wrote:...Incidently, can 5.1 "fit" inside the A100's HDMI 1.1? I thought that HDMI 1.3a's higher bandwidth was necessary. Nope, HDMI 1.1 is fine for ac3, dts and pcm multi-channel... HDMI 1.3 is only needed for passtrough of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD/MA...
- Danne - 12-05-2007 10:16 AM I just wanted to clarify that AC3 DOES work over HDMI for me. I have it set (in the setup) to pass RAW PCM for AC3 sound and it works perfectly over HDMI. All DTS coded .mkv files doenst work, but the AC3 coded works. I got the latest (28 nov) firmware. How I know it works? Because I just bought the coax cable yesterday and I have only had the hdmi cable connected for the first few days of operating. And 300 with AC3 sounded really great ![]() What could be different: I have a receiver able to process both sound and video, so yes, its possible that it doesn't work if you pass the hdmi cable directly to your TV, but if you have it going through an advanced (video processing) receiver it wil work. I do recommend you to use the coax cable though, as it works for both DTS and AC3, and you can then have the HDMI go to your TV and the Caox to your DTS capable receiver. Regards /Danne - Hubert - 12-05-2007 03:39 PM jlb777 how about editing the title of this topic, it's a bit misleading since it turned out to be user error... |
