Only if you installed ltu or any apps that might have messed with system files if not then you should be fine.

it makes sense, because we don't know what the users manipulate before, so with re flashing the previous firmware, it will make sure that there is no manipulation done by the users, which could block the update.
Anyway the steps are just there to make it safe, as i said before, 99,999% successfully updated without doing anything, they just updated straight ahead without a issue.

I don't have any apps installed, I don't even use NMJ. The only custom feature I use with my NMT momentarely is YAMJ which is not even considered an app. So I feel confident doing fw update as straighforward as possible.

That happened to me a couple of times. Found out I had not copied the latest apps.nmt correctly to the root of my USB stick (I had the file from the previous release in there). It should have a date of 3rd June and be 20,376,036 in size.

I may have interpretted your post correctly or I may not.
The recovery image currently hosted at PCH support will not work with the new firmware. When the next firmware is released then there will be a new recovery image that will work with that and all firmwares thereafter.
There is no need for a recovery image for the current online firmware as in the unlikely event that you have a problem during updating you would use the old recovery image as the flash had not worked. Besides the new firmware and recovery image should be out very soon.

I updated yesterday without reading this thread first and noticed today that nzbget and feedtime were both broken. I uninstalled them and reinstalled and they are still broken.

About official recovery firmware - it's based on some older version. You could replace that old version .bin by any newer version with same luck. But latest release states "no ability to downgrade to previous releases anymore" , and recovery .bin is just one of previous releases. I wish to be wrong/mistaken here, of course.

You need to update the NMT Apps with the latest version, go to Settings > Maintenance > NMT Setup Wizard > Typical Update
If you use CSI Apps you need to reinstall them after every firmware update.

I have the message error ERR00056 after i try to update to new firmware...
All HDD, BD Drive are disconnected. (what is the "LTU" ?)
The procedure has not effect in my case.
