Slow & Jerky Web Services Playback (youtube etc)

Hello again. I thought I'd make a seperate thread for this question.

My a110 has very poor youtube/web streaming media performance. When i first attempt to play a youtube video a little buffering takes place, then the video plays for about 8 to 10 seconds, then pauses or becomes extremely jerky, buffers again and repeats the whole play/puse/jerkiness scenario until the end of the video. A laptop plugged into the same port plays the same youtube video/link flawlessly with loads of read ahead buffer time to spare.

If anyone can offer some assistance with getting some consistency during playback I'd be most appreciative.

can you set the pch to an static ip and if so then change the dns and dns2 on the pch to the routers ip adress

Hi Werner. Have done just that but unfortunately no change in performance.

Basically this is the order of symptoms after hitting play on a video - buffer (10 secs), plays smoothly (about 10 secs), pauses (about 3 secs), plays back several frames very quickly as if it is trying to make up for lost time (does this for about 3 secs), pauses (for about 10 secs) then repeats all this. Occasionally it will playback for a bit longer before pausing etc

BTW - the router/modem is a linksys AM300 and the same symptoms occur with A110 directly ethernet connected to the modem

hmm about the linksys AM300 i have heard many bad things but cant confirm it because i never had one, i still prefer linksys wrt54gl with tomato firmware.

can you test the youtube light ptroject which is also located in the forum you can find it here

but i think more it is an router issue or dns issue

gave it a try, unfortunately same symptoms. Great suggestion though and i like the simple interface

Just a note - I've tried the previos two firmwares and nmt app versions with same symptoms too. I've gone back to the latest for everything again.

Can't understand why a PC connected to the same port gives perfect playback performance? main and secondary DNS are set to auto on the PC too

Same here. I did a simple test...
Computer connected to the same router as the PCH. On the computer, 720p trailers from apple are buffered in about 5-10 seconds entirely. On the PCH, if I try to watch such trailer, it plays 3 seconds, pauses for 5, plays quickly about 2 seconds, pauses 5, and so on. Totally unwatchable.
What's happening?

I have the same problems on several of the MSP sites, Revision3, etc.

I will try the static IP and DNS settings... but I am not too hopeful.

same problem here... very irritating... how can they release such a crapy piece of work. It is better to stick with less functionality and to make it good then to throw up after trying to put too much things there which are not finished... very disappointed here...

Same thing here, at first i thought that it was my crappy inet connection, but i can see the same problem that the video plays for about 10 seconds, pauses, play fast (1 second), pauses, play fast......



Any ideas...

I mean if someone with no problems can confirm the configuration he's using (model, firmware, static/dynamic IP, etc...)
