Try;
Quote:dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=512 count=40
where X = correct device letter.

I asked about the data because I didn't want to be messing with a drive with real data.

After that, let the PCH setup the NMT apps and then try our "fix".

RE: How to Align “Advanced Format”, 4096 byte/sector Drives for use as the NMT Apps Drive
I'm looking for suggestions.
I have 2 WD 2tb drives, both with sept 2010 dates.
One works fine as a USB data drive formatted ntfs with the jumper on.
The other gives "usb failed" error when formatted exactly the same and used in the same usb caddy.
PCH A-110 has a drive installed. Latest firmware.
I don't understand how 2 identical drives made in the same month can be such a PITA.
BTW WD Live sees the drive no problem.

They were made the same month but you haven't said if they are the exact same model drive and what that model is?

They are both EARS. Reread the second last line of my previous post.

Fine. Your second line reads;

Quote:I have 2 WD 2tb drives, both with sept 2010 dates.

Does not tell me a thing. The WD EADS line also come as 2TB drives.

Dude your weirding me out.
The second last line says the drives are identical.
So to recap. Identical WD20EARS. I don't know what else to say.

If I were to reformat the drive to ext3 and use it in a usb caddy as a data drive...would that work?
I'm currently using Qparted to reformat.

RE: How to Align “Advanced Format”, 4096 byte/sector Drives for use as the NMT Apps Drive
When reconnecting my drive in my A-200, I got: "Your Media Destination device is not found. Please connect device or assign Media destination in NMT Setup Wizard to continue" in setup->NMT applications, while none of the services were running.

Wondering what I did wrong, perhaps formatting the 4th partition without restoring it's original contents.

Doing a Media Setup seems to remedy this, however: myiHome Server still won't start (status is 'Starting' and the start/stop button is greyed out). Also (coincidentally?), obtaining an IP address proves difficult (I get a 169.254 address while it does detect the gateway being 172.19.3.1)

FWIW, my partition table result was (before completing the mkfs.ext3 formatting of the 4th partition):
Quote:Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 2048s 1953791s 1951744s primary ext3
2 1953792s 2955263s 1001472s primary linux-swap(v1)
3 2955264s 6862847s 3907584s primary ext3
4 6862848s 3907028991s 3900166144s primary

RE: How to Align “Advanced Format”, 4096 byte/sector Drives for use as the NMT Apps Drive
Thanks halfelite,
I just did a reset, now myiHome Server and DHCP client are functioning (yet somehow my login for MSP has been remembered!)
Reinstalling, do you mean NMT setup wizard -> 'typical setup (Installs NMT Applications without removing media contents)'? I might try that with a USB stick later, as I still get these pesky, seemingly random: 'request can not be processed' messages.

More on topic: if one doesn't want to delete the 4th partition, wouldn't it be viable to temporarily remove the 2nd (the swap) partition and move the 3rd partition to the left instead of to the right? If I'm not mistaken, the swap partition does not contain any data when the NMT is powered off.

RE: How to Align “Advanced Format”, 4096 byte/sector Drives for use as the NMT Apps Drive
Having a bit of trouble aligning a 2TB Samsung HD204UI with GParted Live 0.12 0-2.

I started by moving the largest partition (1.8 TB) and it took about 17 hours just to finish "reading", and then said it was gonna take 37 hours to perform the real move!

Is this normal? Or have I done something wrong?

Thanks

You were supposed to delete that partition.

Linksys E3000 (DD-WRT) - Cisco SG 200-08 - Synology DS1812+ - A-400 - Yamaha RX-V671 - Panasonic TC-P55GT30
C-200 w/ MN-200 WiFi - 30" Philips.
