Does this firmware update fix the MKV header compression problem on the B-110?

I installed it today. I have one (big) issue.

The remote starts responding when a movie is playing for some time. (DVD ISO from a NFS mount). I have tried several movies.

The only thing that works is shutting the B110 off using the power-off on de unit itsself.

As in my previous firmware update this update freezed on 95% of "programming kernel". PATA IDE, online update. Successfully recovered to 01-17-080614-15-POP-405 firmware and after that successfully installed new firmware by online update. Is it means that CMOS or flash of my B-110 is bad or dying?

And big thanks for fixes of playback VIDEO_TS files.

I had YouTube on this when I bought it, a reason why I did buy it. Popcorn then removed it and reintroduced it in future models. Why have I not got it back on the B110?

Does anyone know why B-110 firmware or apps are no longer updated?

With a little effort it would be optimized. I'm not talking about getting the latest services but to improve speed or solve subtitle compatibility

If this is a predifined tactic to move customers towards C-200 or C-300, it's a big mistake. Who would buy a product with no more than 3-4 years of official support? Surely i will not

...Windows Xp is still updated...

You really make me laugh with the comparison of Windows XP with the B110.

Name me a consumer electrical device like a BD player or a media player that gets firmware updates 4 years after launch. There are very few. Even Synology have stopped updating my CS407 NAS now and they are just about the best for customer service in the technology side for supporting electrical devices.

You are lucky if you get more than 4 updates on most devices not 4 years of updates.

The 100 series after 4 years is now EOL.

Sigma stopped making the chips and supporting them years ago.. they held out as long as they could..

Good luck finding a product with over 2 years of support, you get double if not more from syabas.

PLAYSTATION 3: gets new firmware every now and then, even more than I ask for while there are no issues to solve really! From day ONE PS3 works exactly as it should, does not crash, does not need to be rebooted etc.

You're missing the point. A consumer electronic device should work properly from the start while firmware updates should be a nice to have, for finetuning etc. In case of Popcorn Hour a firmware update is a bare necessity in order to be able to use the device for what it should do from the beginning as advertized.

MS Windows is another example of a best practice: Issues are acknowledged and are solved as quickly as possible. If and when required there will be updates DAILY.

Could you give us a decent explanation why Syabas can wait longer than a year to solve a wave of very well known issues so that it takes 4 years before your device - which by then is indeed economically obsolete - ALMOST reaches a state close to flawless operation and we should be proud about it?

PS3 gets updates for things like Cinavira etc. you want that!!

Again get real and compare like with like. Syabas are a small company that do not produce a games machine/bluray player or a PC OS. Games manufacturers make Sony millions with licensing etc. and the PS3 is a virtually a PC. I surely dont have to tell you how much Microshaft has ripped us all of over the years. Plus again like Sony their OS products makes them money from others work, think software etc. If Syabas made millions from a device from simply licensing you bet they would keep supporting it. They dont and therefore like everyone else as they cannot afford to do it.

So name a media player company that supplies updates for their media player so as long as four years after release? Clue, they dont exist.

Oh you came to right place if you want to compare things Smile

So microsoft:
- xbox360 came out, xbox original stopped being supported
- media center 2005 came out, original media center stopped being supported
- Zune was discontinued, only the certificates to keep up your purchased music are maintained now
- windows me discontinued, they threw that thing out fast.
- ultimate tv was discontinued, no support.

Even on the products they do support, it's security fixes, not updated support unless that update is to make better security.. If you care to know their support policy I'll be more than happy to find the web page of theirs that lists exactly what they support when.. you'll find long term support is only for business products and they trickle into the home versions of those products.. but once they stop business support, support is gone.

They tried to cancel support for XP so many times I lost count, but it's so mixed in the business world they can't yet.. We won't discuss how many thousands of products do not keep their drivers up to date for xp. All consumer hardware.

Sony:
- only their currently shipped products are supported
- I have a bluray unit they stopped support, it's not 4 years old yet.
- I don't use too many sony products to know if this is it..

Syabas:
- Kept up support on the 100 series of products as long as they possibly could only discontinuing them after the supply of chips to repair them were gone.
- Even toss out an additional update after this happened to make compressed audio mkv headers work..

Other players:
- support stops the second a model is no longer available for order.

Apples to apples comparing no longer made consumer product to product and sorry but syabas is ahead of the support of everyone else..

If you are happy with the support received, good for you.

If you consider you product works as it should, good for you.

This policy of "this article is too old to be supported" is the main reason why people is getting htpc and no longer buying nmt.

When my B110 dies i wil not buy a nmt for sure.
