Hello Robwired

I see from your original post This all started with me wanting to simply have a Jukebox view for my girlfriend.

I'm not sure if you've ever looked beyond YAMJ and NMJ to the other jukebox Oversight.. I went through YAMJ hell (It just wouldnt work for me... all my problem I'm sure!!) so I tried Oversight and have never looked back ... and my wife can use it with ease too Wink

I think he's posted that he has it all setup fine now through using NFO files for each file.

RE: NMJ, YANFOE, YAMJ, Feel like giving up this HOBBY.
Hi Vlad,

As we spoke about there are several issues with regards to the NMJ Jukebox that I'd like to get to the bottom of.

For anyone else that is reading this I'd like to be clear with regards to a minimum set of expectations of the NMJ product within my Popcorn Hour C-200.

I'm NOT looking for NMJ to perform magic, I don't expect to throw at it movie files that have not been renamed appropriately and expect the product to have each movie correctly named. I DO expect the NMJ to give me 100% accurate results though IF I have taken the time to ensure that I have given NMJ the correct info on my side.

I understand that I could use another media manager instead, but I'm trying to avoid that because I'm thinking of the future where I don't want to have to do that each time and also I'd like a solution that I can give to my friends, family and co-workers. As it stands I can't recommend Popcorn Hour to them until I get this solved.

With that said, here is what I have done:

I took 1000 movies and renamed them using TheRenamer. This gave the movie files the exact name that NMJ has called for, from IMDB. so "Being John Malkovich (1999).avi" is how my movies are named.

TheRenamer created .nfo files for each movie that contain the IMDB movie numbers. The .nfo for the above movie is "Being John Malkovich (1999).nfo and it contains the appropriate IMDB TT Number within the IMDB url of http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120601/

I ran NMJ and in spite of doing the work on my side there are some movies that are coming back either incorrectly named or with missing artwork. Here are some examples.

Each of the cases below is DIFFERENT and each one really points out each of the bug issues that the NMJ has.

Case #1) The first movie with a problem is American Cousins (2003):

* It's named appropriately: American Cousins (2003).avi
* The .nfo is named American Cousins (2003).nfo
* The .nfo contains this text : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0324992/
* TheMovieDB.org contains Artwork and also contains the IMDB movie number. (I registered to check under Movie Details)
* IMDB.com contains Artwork

Just to ensure this didn't have anything to do with NMJ simply not downloading the artwork appropriately I did the following:

* I refreshed the movie and that didn't update the video file.
* I changed the video info to another movie entirely which gave me artwork for the incorrect movie, then I changed it back to the appropriate movie and that still didn't work.

I assume this has something to do with caching of media information by your servers. Can you confirm and recommend a solution?

Case #2) The 2nd movie with a problem is Batman (1966), which is appearing as Batman: The Movie. This is fine though, the issue is with the artwork on the wall.

The description is appearing accurately, which is the identical description from both IMDB and TheMovieDB.org so I still can't really confirm where it's coming from but regardless, the artwork isn't downloading onto the NMJ wall.

* It's named: Batman (1966).avi
* The .nfo is named Batman (1966).nfo
* The .nfo contains this text : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060153/
* TheMovieDB.org contains Artwork and also contains the IMDB movie number.
* IMDB.com contains Artwork

It now shows up on the wall with the movie poster from the movie I temporarily changed it to. (It still has the correct artwork in the movie details.)
* I banged my head again on the wall for another minute and then came back to the device to find that although I was a little more lightheaded the problem was still there.

This one is reminiscent of the known issue within NMJ of not updating the Wall after doing a video file edit. I know HOW to fix it, both within NMJ Toolbox and by dragging the artwork from the posters folder into the thumbnails folder within the nmj_database folder but I really don't want to do that as I'm trying to get NMJ to create a perfect jukebox on the first run for my family, friends and for my own sanity.

Case #3) The 3rd movie with a problem is The Best Bits of Mr. Bean (1997), which is appearing as The Best Bit of Mr Bean. The movie description is accurate but the movie name should contain the word Bits and not Bit AND the Artwork is missing.

The description is appearing accurately, which is the identical description from both IMDB and TheMovieDB.org but the name is different and this is the movie that confirms 100% that NMJ is pulling info from TheMovieDB.org and NOT IMDB.com!!!

* It's named: The Best Bits of Mr. Bean (1997).avi
* The .nfo is named The Best Bits of Mr. Bean (1997).nfo
* The .nfo contains this text : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291751/
* IMDB.com does NOT contain Artwork
*** The MovieDB.org contains TWO entries for this movie. Both entries contain the IMDB movie number, however one is inaccurate and is missing artwork.
The first MovieDB entry is The MovieDB.org http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/57648-th...of-mr-bean

This one has an accurate description, contains artwork and has the imdb movie number, however NMJ is still picking up the second entry.

The second MovieDB entry is The MovieDB.org http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/57647-th...f-mr-bean#

This second entry is incomplete. It appears someone started to edit it and never uploaded the artwork. They also named it incorrectly which is why it's probably not been fixed as the first entry is complete. For some reason NMJ is picking up the incorrect entry in spite of the fact that I've included the IMDB movie number BECAUSE both of the entries contain the IMDB movie number.

Please DO NOT edit the 2nd entry as I'd like to have it as a case study to use to fix the NMJ Jukebox for both v1 and v2 users.

Case #4) Incorrect Artwork for Casino Royale (2006)

I'm also having problems with movies that have the same name and are released in different years. For example, Casino Royale has two different movies with the same name in different years.

In some of these cases NMJ is pulling the same artwork (from the 1967 film) for both of the films. The description for each movie are different though so it seems that the issue is just the artwork.

Casino Royale (1967).nfo contains http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061452/
Casino Royale (2006).nfo contains http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/

When I go to both of these entries I see that there is different movie artwork for both IMDB and TheMovieDB. I've also confirmed that TheMovieDB contains the correct IMDB tt number for each movie.

Does this mean that this is a caching issue?

Questions:

1) Will the next version of the firmware for NMJ be updated to allow for entry of TheMovieDB.org movie numbers instead of IMDB tt numbers?

This would clear up confusion and would allow a user to select the exact movie that they would like their device to pull rather than having TheMovieDB search for an IMDB TT number which clearly isn't working from case #3 above where TheMovieDB has two different movies with the same IMDB TT number.

2) Is it possible to create .nfo files with TheMovieDB urls instead of IMDB urls?

This again would clean things up as it would be a direct hit of the movie rather than this really complicated TheMovieDB\IMDB lookup that is going on now.

3) Could you please explain how the caching process is working. As it stands now it sounds like if your cache has incorrect movie information for an older movie that there isn't any way for us to get NMJ to get the updated info from TheMovieDB.

How often is your cache updating from TheMovieDB for older movies?

4) When will the firmware update be available for the C-200 and for the C-300 that fixes the Wall Art not being updated after video edit issue?

5) YAMJ currently supports including the IMDB number within the movie filename which means that you don't even need a .nfo file. Does NMJ support this and if not, is it something you are planning or would consider?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to resolve these issues. I'm hoping that by finishing the last 1% of work on NMJ that this will make the product even better and that others will feel more comfortable with purchasing Popcorn Hour products.

Yours,

Rob

grab yourself therenamer and concentrate on the filenames. That's where detection of your media starts.

Then use the common formats of:
Movie name (year).ext
TV Show (year).s##e##.ext

movie name and year to use comes from http://www.imdb.com
tv show name and IF it should have a year and what year comes from http://www.thetvdb.com (use the search reasults to know if it should have a year). there's a lot of tv show name overlap so this is important. s## is the season # and e## is the episode number, you can get them from thetvdb also.

therenamer searches thetvdb and imdb for you.

just having the correct filenames will fix 99.9% of your problems with detection.

I just recieved my 2nd A-300 and with the combination of the renamer, Ember media manager and having nfo's with the just proper imdb I had almost about 95% success. (some was my fault too) vs 70% on the first A-300( I only had the folder and file names done properly with no nfo and and no poster of fanart). I have about 2000 movies. The first time I got a lot of those files using the years for the title. probably over 100. this time I had 4. NFO's with just the imdb link and EMM-R made all the difference in the world.

RE: NMJ, YANFOE, YAMJ, Feel like giving up this HOBBY.
Hi,

Maybe it's me but I don't feel that 95% or even 99% is the correct number IF we are actually putting in the IMDB tt numbers. I don't feel that Sybase should have to do miracles on media collections that haven't been correctly named, but if we are doing the naming AND inputting the movie number into the .nfo then I believe that the product should work 100%, especially after the amount of time that the company has had to get it right.

It seems to me that carrying forward these issues into the C300 series and the NMJ v2 is a HUGE mistake.

Depending on the response that I get from Sybase I may end up giving up on NMJ for the 2nd time. I only revisited it based on comments that others had made here to do things that I had not done and a greater understanding of the software.

It's sad but I may be forced back into using YAMJ again which I really didn't want to do because I wanted to be able to easily add files to my media library without having to run YAMJ/TOMY each time I add some.

The creator of Tomy recommends scrubbing them in a pending folder and then moving them over but really, this is just a big pain in the butt.

What I really want is for Sybase to fix the bugs on their back-end so that old and new users alike are able to use the product without resorting to 3rd party software.

RE: NMJ, YANFOE, YAMJ, Feel like giving up this HOBBY.
Hi All,

I feel like hitting my head into the wall again.

I was able to get my movies all named correctly AND create .nfo files so that the various media jukeboxes such as NMJ, YAMJ recognized files for about 95% so I moved onto tv shows.

I used therenamer to get all the names correct and then had it make .nfo files for each show.

Then I ran YAMJ like I did on movies and was stunned to find that it didn't pull ANY artwork.

I must be missing something very basic here or was there some recent change that messed everything up with YAMJ and thetvdb.com?

RE: NMJ, YANFOE, YAMJ, Feel like giving up this HOBBY.
Maybe if we could use the name of the directory instead of the name of the movie it would be better. Because knowing the name of the release it's really useful for looking for subtitles.
