I have the same problems with some files.
What works for me in Virtualdub:
Video: direct stream copy
Audio: Full Processing Mode / Compression: Lame MP3 / 48000 Hz, 160 kpbs CBR Stereo (Not sure >128 is nescessary)

Just wanted to raise my hand, and join the club. I have been experiencing this for awhile now (only on certain files, exactly as OP describes). Gonna try this Virtualdub fix and will report back.

Great!. The reprocessing audio in Virtualdub fixed these files. I was able to use both 160 kbps and 128 kbps and both files now work.

Took a bit of doing to get the Lame MP3 installed in Win7 64, but all is good now. Saved the processing settings, so each file that doesn't work (in this way) on the A-110 can be fixed in 1 minute.
