[SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
Any news on when will this be supported?
It is on test since November 2008 if I'm not wrong. Just need an estimate....days, weeks, months...? |

RE: [SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
I hope that, they did not forget about this important issue.
We are all waiting for this to be true, at least they could provide us this firmware supporting the Idx subtitle to try and see. |

RE: [SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
Beta testing has a beta1 firmware with idx/sub support.
Now the bad news it doesn't work very well. In fact it is unusable presently. Since beta1 there have been 2 bug fix firmware releases IIRC, may be one. There is also a rush on providing a working firmware to review/test the next generation player which will NOT replace the A110. Once the new player is launched expect beta2, etc then RC1, Rc2 etc before aq stable release with hopefully working idx/sub subtitles. RE: [SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
Still hope to get this soon. Simple media players (like WD Media player) can show idx quite easily, why not POPCORNT yet?

Only the developers at Syabas knows exactly what the technical difficulties are - we dont. As for the WD - dont mean to pick on you but I really hate it when people point out a single feature and reference that this or that other product do it. Its so narrow minded. Yes - the WD has support for this - but then you should also remember to ask why the WD doesnt have support for DVD structures, auto framerate adjustment, NMT applications, correct 24p output, color space option, full network support, DLNA/UPNP support, Youtube and other internet features, internet radio stations, http server support, and many other things which the PCH have and which has taken time to develop and which need constant developing support. Some manufactures do something, others do something else, different products with different features. Theres no reason to pick out one specific feature as highlight and use the WD as reference because of this one feature. Its much less demanding making a simple player like the WD which only need to do simple playback from one usb source and nothing else, therefore there has been possibility to spend the time on developing idx/sub support on that from WD developers while Syabas developers may have spend time on something else, like auto framerate adjustment which was also a hughe request. Simply speaking there hasnt been available developing ressources to finish idx/sub support yet - but I and many others hope there will be soon.

I agree with you, but, question is still valid, why do Syabs developers spend their time on less-important features like what you mentioned above, and then they forget about much more importnat ones? I really don't get it. I think, they should follow the "voting posts", instead of doing that. |

I think they should do exactly what I want, and what I consider to be the most important feature.

RE: [SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
Probably a large portion of people using the PCH for proper unmolested HD content are not necessarily even reading the forum (given its mostly working fine for that type of stuff).
Given the torrent stuff is what most of the people here are using to get their files, any vote for proper file compatibility vs. downloading utilities would probably swing in the direction of developing such downloading things ;-) The long-standing LPCM bug, this particular issue (and lack of PGS support for HD-DVD/Blu-ray backups) spring immediately to mind :-) Fingers crossed the next-gen player will have this stuff already working and they can back-port the code to the older generation firmwares. Cheers, -jj- |

RE: [SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
At last someone sees the benefit of the new player in terms of what it will bring to the A110 instead of the woe is me my player will be outdated.
Yes it is hoped that many things will be learnt from the new player, which uses new libs etc, and that things can be back-ported. RE: [SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
This forum is the place to come for news on the new player. We are aiming to have the news here first.
Expect to know by this time next month if not earlier the spec at least. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

(04-27-2009 07:51 AM)chris57 Wrote: At last someone sees the benefit of the new player in terms of what it will bring to the A110 instead of the woe is me my player will be outdated. Chris, I'll certainly put an order in for mine when it's announced for pre-order and take a risk (again hehe), can't wait to see the performance with the new Sigma chipset. Waiting with baited breath for the announcement :-) As mentioned, I'm only having a few small, non show-stopper bugs with the Istar 1.3 (which I swapped for my A-110 mainly due to the power button which was missing at time of purchase). Due to the delayed firmware issues seen with the other suppliers, I will not buy another non-Syabas brand however ;-) It would be nice if we could get a little improved feedback from Syabas though in the future - certainly, I see Syabas lagging behind (at the moment - but it will be nice to be proved wrong soon) the competition on various things that are important to me personally. I really only saw Werner normally posting things that Syabas cannot do rather than things that are being worked on during 2008-2009 (in general). Perhaps the internal communication between Werner and Syabas needs to improve, so not a personal criticism again him. Multichannel LPCM (without bugs), multichannel FLAC, VOBSUB support, PGS support, UDF 2.5 .ISO support other brands have - it would be nice if we could get some form of update if these bugs/features will be at least looked at or fixed in the future for current generation (as it shouldn't be an issue of revealing work in progress where these features are available and working elsewhere already). Would consider myself a loyal customer as A-110 would be the player I am recommending to friends over Tvix (firmware bugs, lack of customer support, abandoning older models overnight), HDI (price too high although features and support from firmware developers are excellent), WDTV (lack of networking support). Hopefully that is seen as constructive criticism rather than just a +1 post ;-) Cheers, -jj- |

RE: [SUBTITLES] IDX SUB
*sigh* I just don't get it... IDX/SUB is a relatively simple thing to support. It's these bizarre omissions that don't make sense. Why support subs in DVD structure, but not have any support at all for graphic subs outside of an ISO? They're timed RLE-encoded bitmap overlays - that's stuff you hand to the interns. How do you get something like YouTube working but subs are in alpha/beta for half a year?
Eh whatever... :-) |
