RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
I really like the fact that you have combined a lot of menus and submenus in one menu. It seems to make it faster to browse through your content. But the icons and the way they are put together looks a bit messy to me.
So i really like the functionality, but I don´t love the design

Really really very amateur design. Layout is awful, icons are very sloppy. Please hire real designers to prepare interfaces like that. Because interface is very important. Remember Apple's recent success story with I* products...

RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
hi ,
- 1rst of all good idea to show on the same screen menu and sub-menu , in the same order "recent" is a good tools - the 3rd column show dedicated to APPS - so should be open to add what application end user want to post at the first menu ==> suggestion 1 - use 3rd column as APPS and let this list custumizable in a file - I agree with some previous post with the confusion that append number at the top ==> first i thought that number was TVID which could move from one column to another - if you want to use number (TVID), add number to each sub-menu this allow to enter the sub-menu directly ==> suggestion 2 - add TVID and put in a file which end-user could modify what TVID is affected to what entry he want - label and popup explanation are very good idea ==> suggestion 3 - could theses 2 display be customized (local language) with an open file where to take what shoulf be displayed |

RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
removed the flow from the poll because it is confusing what they mean with it, i think that they don't mean the speed because speed is all the time welcome, with flow they mean how the navigating at all is.

RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
Hmmm not sure. A redesign could be good, but I guess this is confusing.
I like the combining thing, but for some reason it looks messy. The current home screen is clear. What I don't like about the current home is how you can go from network to several configured network shares. (arrow down). So this is a nice step, but not really 100% the right one. Maybe we beta users could play with it, maybe that changes my opinion. C-200 + Samsung LE37S81 +SONY STR-DB 870 QS Dutch manual: download it here. |

RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
Poll should be about "Look and Feel" and "Usability" perception based on the the demo video.
Look: How much does it match your AV playback presentation demands.... Feel: How much do you value the general theme presentation, fonts, icons, choice actions and background..... Usability: How much does this improve the usability compared to the default browser, How much does this improve the usability compared to your user implemented GUI or Jukebox poll should not be yes/no but on a scale of 1 to 10 PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |

RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
It's quite confusing... I had to watch the video quite a few times to understand how it works (actually, I don't, even now :o)
About the look'n'feel: - There's no consistency for the icons (colors, designs...) - and I don't like the icons (they mean nothing for someone not computer savvy: not family-friendly enough). About the usability: - So, as I understand it, you have 3 columns, but I don't know how you go from one to the others (maybe it's by pressing the number of the column? then the numbers of the columns should be this number: 'X', not '0X'; maybe it's by pressing the 'right' and 'left' key? that could be very confusing when browsing...) - Maybe you should also add small 'up' , 'down', 'right' and 'left' arrows somewhere to make it clear how to navigate in or between the columns - It's quite messy, because a lot of what is shown on the screen is useless or confusing, and should not be shown: I think only the content of selected column should be shown, and for the other columns only the title and the key to press in order to go to that column should be visible (making it something more like tabs rather than columns). Edit: now, maybe I understand it better: you first select the source in the 1rst column, then you browse this source in the 2nd one? Naming the first column 'browse' is quite misleading... If that's how it works, then showing the 2 first columns may make sense... Naming the columns 'Source' and 'Browse' rather than 'Browse' and 'Media' makes more sense to me. But the 3rd one, 'recent', should not be always visible. And why is the 'preferences' icon in the 'Media' column? Edit2: oh... maybe I'll get it this time: you first select the source in the first column, then you select the media type in the second one, which will take you to the corresponding NMJ screen... The columns should be named 'Source' and 'Media' then... I really hope one can still browse by folder somehow... RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
I think the icons are OK, the layout could be better but it looks tight (don't know the right word).
But then, the colors! wtf! How flashy can you make a menu... I like the idea of chosing the source first and then being able to chose between watching a movie/playing music and so on from that source. Also recent is nice. However, the implementation is confusing. And if i'm not mistaken, the idea is already somehow present in the current view. So why change thing? Make the current circular view better? Now you chose harddisk and you go to the root of the disk. Maybe make a submenu (like currently available for network and setup) that you can move down and chose the task? Anyway, before I would force users to switch to a complete nmj-based structure, I would make sure nmj works very well. I don't have much time anymore to test stuff and i have all my files and nfo's according to yamj specs. I know there's some piece of software to convert a yamj library, but it's not how nmj was meant to be used. And if i chose to make a nmj for my internal hard drive, nmj starts and hangs after a couple of minutes. Leaving it overnight results in a nmj still hanging, so i can't create a library easily. Not very user-friendly so i keep on using yamj. If you don't care about looks but about the pch to be user-friendly, at this moment you defenitely don't want to switch to nmj, but you want to stay with the old way of navigating i think... |

The colours and icons are irrelevant if the interface doesn't make sense.

RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
I have to agree with almost all of the previous posts... This UI is bad, the current - ring like - one is way better and easier to understand - even for a newbie.
Initially I thought that NMJV2 will be a major revision and bugfix for the current flaws we discussed in this forum topics. Yet we only know that TVDB will replace IMDB source - and that's all. Sorry Werner, no offense, but In my opinion you should first fix those bugs and AFTER that you can play with the UI. |

RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
no offense Louis, we are fixing bugs, but what has gui todo with firmware, that is like asking a cook to build a car.
Ui is also important, not only for marketing reasons, but also for usability. I am for sure the first who is against this kind of source, that is the main reason for this poll. To show our team that not only I have such feeling about this source. Most of the replies here reflect exactly what I think, so it just makes my points, which I made before, much stronger. I am here to get what users want, because I am also a user, good example is auto video resolution which is finally in development, after the great poll. Anyway lets get the poll done then we can try to get something else. RE: NMJ V2 Source Menu whats your opinion
First of all, I thought I bought a Mediaplayer, not a Windows mobile phone!
![]() I don't want to repeat the previous answers but I don't like it, too. One additional aspect that came to my mind was the "cinema feeling". When I start my mediaplayer I would like to have a feeling of anticipation or some kind of a Wow! effect, like we have with great DVD/Bluray menus. Thought the NMT doesn't have the hardware power to show a menu like eg. the PS3 does, the current wheel menu with its colors and "light effect" is fullfilling this in a much better way then this new over-engineered screen. With the latter one I feel more like browsing in the windows explorer. Just a suggestion regarding 'familiy-friendlyness': let the designers/devs test the new design by one of their children or women (no offense - or a man who's not interested in technical stuff) WITHOUT explaining anything. Then they'll see...Since I know how stubborn companies can be when it's about their new 'babies' (regardless of the customers opinion) PLEASE at least give us the option to choose between the old and the new design!
