I have not taken the last few upgrades as I have not needed any of the fixes. If this version is a doorway to the future then I guess I need it for some of the things we know are slated to be fixed.

With no way back to what I know to be working, I need to check ...

I play AnyDVD HD copied BD folders with the copy protection and BD live removed. These are stored on a NAS. I do not have HDMI or HD audio so use Component video (for the PJ), S-Video (for the TV) and SPDIF connections to my surround processor. The processor picks up the core multi-channel audio and everything plays well.

My question is, will this setup still work after this upgrade or has BD folder playback with copy protection removed been locked down to HDMI only?

if there is no copy protection then it can't lock down anything, so yes it will still output to all outputs

I was worried too, but the process with HDD unplugged went with no problems. It was just annoying because I m not technical type and do not like to open and play with hardware (and I think there are much more people who are even less skilled).

Not sure if I have an issue or not,
read through this thread and couldn't figure it out, but what happened is when I got the email (couple of days back), I went and upgraded my firmware + NMT apss without looking on the notes (I know I'm bad and shouldn't have but this is what happened), it is only now that I'm having a look and it seems that it was/is a very big deal. Good news is everything worked with the upgrade and I had no issues. Same thing with installing NMT apps. C200 working like a charm.
My question, is would I need to redo the uppgrade steps as posted on the beginning of the thread, or I was very lucky by not a having a problem, and there's no need for me to redo the update of this new firmware?

So this "Stepstone" firmware is due to bluray licence reasons? Does that mean that the A200/210 won't get a simular Stepstone firmware?

Yes I have tested it.

It's slow but it works. I have tested BD-Live features from BD & BDMV by Fox, Universal, Sony & Disney.

Can someone explain to me why I don't have to do this sort of procedure every two years on my Sony Blu Ray drive? It seems to be able to handle any discs I throw at it.

I'm genuinely curious here - not starting a flame.

Is it something to do with supporting multiple regions or something?

I tested bd live with the german version of terminator 2 skynet edition and it is not working still says you need profile 2.0 bluray player.

Nothing to do with multiregions.

It is due to the type of license, due to the fact that the C200 does not come with a custom/drawer type ROM drive and can fit any PC style ROM drives. It's license requires approx 18 month renewals.

Any BD player with just a drawer requires a different type fo license. If the C200 had a drawer type then it would have the same type of license as a bluray player but would require returning the unit everytime the bluray drawer ran into problems.

I bought the movie Chocolat last weekend. I'm in NL, so it was a Dutch release. Even though it said on the box that it wasn't region locked (logo with A,B and C), but with the previous firmware I got the message "Bad Region". I tried three times, one was a reboot with the disc still in and also one time after shortly playing another BD.

I planned to test it on the PS3 of a colleage (as my PS3 was stolen recently), but I received the new FW. When I noticed that the C-200 got new AACS keys, I tried it again and guess what? It plays and no mention of "Bad Region".

Coincidence, or do problems with the AACS keys actually trigger the "Bad Region" error? If it wasn't the AACS keys, what could have triggered the error message?

Did you not read Werner's instructions on page 1? Remove your HDD where your NMT apps are installed?

No-one should be expected to do this on a consumer device for something as simple as a firmware update.

And this is for users that didn't have CSI installed, so for regular users that bought a product off the shelf and expected to use it, not people that have been hacking around with the unit.

What consumer device do you upgrade the firmware on? that does not have steps you need to take . Every device I own that does not have a pc that flashes the firmware has pre steps to take to ensure a safe flash. And this was just one time that this has to be done in 2 years.

My LG 2X phone got a firmware over the air without needing to remove the SD card. If I had to disconnect the HD, that would be quite annoying for me. I would have to take the C-200 out of the AV cabinet and open it up to disconnect the 2.5 HD.
