As Werner explained, the new UI will be anyway faster then the previous one...

I'm genuinely sincere but I think the new UI (if Syabas decides to push through with it) will go into beta testing 1st Quarter 2012. The current beta round is based on Gaya and Syabas will not change their plan for it's release as the last firmware based on Gaya.

Kinda like the big transition between the old SDK used when the C200 was released to the current SDK (which allowed HD Audio tracks to work using single files), this is a BIG transition so basing it on past experience working as a member of the beta test team I think we'll be looking at at least 6-8 months work before it hits public firmware.

I am in favor !! People who want to fool around don't have to upgrade and can stay on the current level! Those that are fooling around probably can also help themselves to new stuff if they need to! However we non experts would off course love to have all the benefits of the new UI !

Damn... I sincerely hope you're wrong Dave_D but I'm affraid you aren't...
On the other end, I prefer them to test it decently instead of releasing it next week, for example, full of bugs.
Especially knowing that you won't be able to "just test it" and if you want go back to the previous version, as we know it's not an option.

I'm just using my experience from the last big upheaval (old SDK to current SDK) how long it took.

That firmware change took 6 months with 4 beta rounds and 3 RC rounds. Each round lasted around 21 days average.

From past readings, the reason why we can't have both GAYA and Flash is because it requires another SDK change and I'm guessing during this process, there's a change in the NAND portion of the flash that holds the SDK that needs changing.

Think of the your C200's totally memory divided into sections.
- AACS keys <--- this requires changes every 18 months.
- SDK <--- this stays even after every firmware update and is actually called by the higher level firmware
- Firmware <--- this gets updated

The only time the SDK was changed was May 2010 (to allow HD Audio for single file playback) and of course the recent AACS change.

However I will CONCEDE I may be overzealous in my estimate because in the past the change to new SDK was without precedence. This time around, we already know it EXISTS so it's just porting over what already has been tested over and over since the release of the original Popbox.
