Where on network to add a Nas
Hi All sorry if this has been asked b4. My network setup at present is PC to Superhub Router to a Gigabit Switch to which is connected My C200,Lg Smart Tv,Samsung Smart Bluray,Virgin Tivo and X box 360 Where in this set up would be the best place for a new synology nas .ie connected to the router or to the Gigabit switch . I inted to remove the internal drive from my C200 and load all my films, music and photographs on the Nas

RE: Where on network to add a Nas
Anywhere you like! I have my Synology 1511+ into a gigabit 8port switch, c200 into same switch, homeplug into it also. Other end of homeplug is in bedroom serving an A300 and all works off 1 jukebox hosted on the synology. Works fine.
Samsung PS50P96FD Plasma (ISF Calibrated), Sony BDP-S550, SkyHD, HDMI 4x2 Matrix, Synology 1511+ with DX510 25TB NAS, Onkyo 605 receiver, Kef Q Series speakers QED cables. C200 & A210, A300 1.5TB Internal HDD in each. |

RE: Where on network to add a Nas
My advice is to keep the internal, you will need the cache and buffering for smooth playback and NMT applications and services...
Most thumbstick alternatives are much slower... PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |

You may want to consider using the NAS on the network as a backup of all your media in case the internal HDD crashes. You'll be thankful if you do when it happens. |

Is this still valid? i know back in the 100 days it was a big deal but i've found my 200s to be unstable when I have drives (internal or usb thumb) with nmt installed. I only happened to notice this after downgrading from a beta firmware and was too lazy to reinstall the nmt for it. it was after putting it back on that it was very clear nmt wasn't helping. |

Thanks all Im using Yamj with Eversion skin and I thought a Nas would be better method of storage as my internal 2Tb drive is almost full so I was going to put in a new 2Tb drive in the nas copy over my film collection and then instal my original drive in the Nas and use that as storage as well John.s |

RE: Where on network to add a Nas
Williem has a valid point but I'm not sure if the 200s or 300s even use the drive for buffering anymore. I'm pretty sure they don't but I can't confirm that..
I would move the drive to the nas if it was my house. If you find you need nmt installed, get a small thumbdrive for the pch. the larger storage drive is better served in the nas IMHO |
