Realtek chipset supports IDX/SUB better than the Sigma chipset. And they support RMVB format too.
I have purchased a NMT with Sigma chip and later a NMT with Realtek chipset.
Some files the Popcorn has troubles, I can play it with my NMT with Realtek chipset. Some files the NMT with Realtek has troubles, I can play it with the Popcorn. Don't you think it's stupid I bought 2 different NMT's to use?

The reason why I bought the Popcorn a few years ago is the good firmware/software support. But now the situation is changed. Realtek NMT's have improved and the quality are the same.
The available of lots of software/apps is important issue to buy the right one.
That's why Sybass need to more open with their software and drivers/firmwares.
A NMT with lack of software/drivers/firmware will die, R.I.P. That's why people want to jailbreak their phone, because they want to use other not allowed software on their phone.
I can tell a device that is closed for 3rd party software development is not good for the sales, now or in the future. A jailbroken or hacked device is a powerful device to chose the right purchase device! (E.g. PS2 , IPAD, IPhone)

It's a pity the the A-300 still has not solved the problem with the IDX/SUB problem. Lucky I have not upgrade my A-100 to A-300. Otherwise it was a waste of money.

^^ story still fits find a player that works for you and stick with it. My main issues with realtek players are almost all of them have suffered hd audio issues so they are not for me. For my sigma based players have been the most solid. There is not such thing as 100% working player find what fits you the best with the least amount of trouble and thats the best you can hope for.

But you are a little confused here there is a difference between jail breaking a phone to install and app and giving people your proprietary software. You can jailbreak an iphone still doesnt give you access to the internal siri commands or anything like that it just gives you access to install software the hardware is still locked. In that term the pch is already jailbroke you can install 3rd party software in the linux mode you just dont get access to the hardware code.

Hopefully there will still have an upgrade for a-110
After the upgrade some of the avi files don't have audio.

Can we get a audio codec update, or a solution for the broken audiotracks, please? Anyone knows if the previous firmware works better?

There is nothing wrong with the codec, its badly encoded if you are talking the avi/mp3 that dont play audio, And they are no longer putting out avi/mp3 files they moved to mp4/aac. There will be no fix the 100 series is EOL.

Popcorn hour really sucks, tons of new videos i cant play with it. I bought my A-110 really late, got a good year with it before they stopped making firmware updates. And do they really expect me to buy a new crappy NMT from them, to support their buy and throw machines. I would recommend everyone to buy a Mediacenter pc instead, atleast then u could update your own codecs.

Has not been said officially but it's one of them read between the lines. I would say with 99.9% certain that it's eol.. There might never be an official announcement. If it's something that you are waiting on I would cut your loss and move to something else.

Pretty much impossible you would also need the sigma sdk to compile it also.

and pay them for every download and compile of it .. you can't open source anythign that works with sigma hardware.

Checkout that something else called BOXEE. I have A110 in working condition but collecting dust in garage because replaced with BOXEE BOX(less money more supported formats.) Even plays 3d 1080p from stream without any problem. Look something BOXEE.

I got my a110 about 4 months before they announced/released the c200. It sort of sucked. On the other hand my a110 has been pretty solid (except the 5 months it took them to address the header compression issue).

I imagine at some point there's going to be some codec changes and my a110 will lose its usefulness. I probably won't replace it with another popcorn hour. It really got regulated to 2nd tier support within a year of it being discontinued. The c200 got the header compression update almost right away.

Most of the other companies haven't been around long enough to see what kind of track record they would have in similar cirumstances.

I'm leaning towards a device that can support xbmc. At least if its open source, people are always working on it.
