A-300 temperature
Hi guys, I'm an happy user of PCH A-300 but these days of hotness (during day in my house I reach even 28 celsius degrees!!!) I just want to know if the chassis of your device is hot as mine. Let me explain: with my pch in stand-by the chassis is hot, dont misuderstand it's NOT burning but the temperature is noticeable to touch. Is this normal? The internal HD is not spinning, let me know if it is perfectly normal or I have to take countermeasures

RE: A-300 temperature
Ouch, thats hot indoors Smile

Do you have a SMART program? Just wondering because you could shut everything down and pull the HDD, then hook it to a PC and check and see what average and high temps its hitting.

RE: A-300 temperature
you're right is very hot indeed i was in the basement right now! But I don't think that is the HDD I've noticed that the interested part of the chassis is the left where are the cpu, usb controllers and all the other I/O ports. Maybe it's exactly because of the high internal house temperature what do you think?

RE: A-300 temperature
I think the indoor temp adds to it, I see the same effect on my Directv DVR. In my reading during my wait for the A-300 arrival, it seems it should be warm to the touch (the case) but not too hot. If you have it in an area where you cannot get enough air to it, they do make small USB fans you could attach and blow cooler air in thru the vents. Ive done this in the past with DVR's.

RE: A-300 temperature
Probably it's perfectly normal and I'm just worrying about it too much, the problems of these italians day of heat is that there isn't a single breath of air, and my parents don't want to buy air conditioning which could help :-) I will buy an usb fan to attach and cool it down! Thank to your reply!

RE: A-300 temperature
remember the metal case of the A300 is part of the heatsink the heat is transferred to the case so it will always be warm to the touch and could get a little hotter on hot days

RE: A-300 temperature
Sharing my experience. My A300 is sitting inside my entertain cabinet enclosed to a door glass, similar to my other player. Don't what the exact temperature is but I can't barely touch the a300 because of it's temperature. Btw, the HD is in it.

passive cooled devices still need fresh air to cool them, they just don't have a fan to force the air to move around. You essentially have created an oven in your cabinet with the pch as the heat source. There are a lot of options for cabinet setups, including quiet fans you can install into the cabinet itself to refresh the air.

RE: A-300 temperature
I stopped using enclosed ent centers a long time ago. HDDVR's just run too hot.

Hahaha. I agree. Forgot to mention that I have a exhaust fan at the back of the cabinet. Works like the outtake fan at the back of a PC.

What problem?? the case is the heatsink, it is going to be warm

I said nothing about putting a fan inside the pch.. If your using your pch in a closed cabinet, you have no way for fresh air to get into the cabinet and there is a whole industry of solutions for this.
