unpak script Exception
Hello,
I have download the last version of unpak.sh and this script is wonderfull...congrats. I have a question about usenet. A lot of binarie files are now renamed in : Quote:file.001 So when you download this kind of file, nbzget download all the file but when unpak.sh is loaded, It try to find file.r01, file.r02. When you download this kind of file, an other .rar is available named rename.rar, inside this .rar, there is a rename.sh. The aim of this script : file.001 => file.r01 Issues encountred : nbzget is able to unpak nbzget delete all par files nbzget move the downloaded folder in unsorted. ==> how can i do to unpak automaticaly ? Thanks for all NB : find here a kind of nzb file : here PCHA110/Spinpoint F1 1TB PANASONIC TH-42PZ81E Yamaha HTR-6030 Silver - 5 x 100 W |

RE: unpak script Exception
Hi, I had a quick look.
The files have the format you say. eg file.001, file.002 etc. The par files refer to the New name eg real.name.rar , real.name.r01 And the rename.rar contains a .sh and .bat file to rename. I'm a little bit puzzled by this format as all parts are posted by the same poster only hours apart. So why not rename them themselves? Maybe they are trying to avoid certain material being easily traced back to them from usenet searches? Also, personally I dont like the idea of automatically downloading and executing a .sh or .bat file. I could parse the .sh file as data , and pass it to my own rename command. I personally wouldnt like to support it without understand the reasoning and necessity behind this format, as it seems a bit flawed to me. Why not simply use a cryptic rar name in the first place? If anyone could shed some light on the Web site / organisation doing this (via PM if necessary) I'd be interested, but at the moment I'm not too interested in adding a workaround for something that looks like a bad decision. Sorry. (of course Euros would change my stance on this )

RE: unpak script Exception
Thanks for your answer ydrol. I don't know the reason why people post this kind of binarie file, I guess to be more secure !

RE: unpak script Exception
Split files are quicker to create for the poster and recreate for the downloader. With RARs, you create the RAR files with WinRAR or whatever. But since media files are already compressed, you're not using the archiver's compression abilities, you're only using it to split the file into parts. If you're only using it to split, then simply skip the RAR stage and set QuickPar to create the splits and the RARs based on the original files. It will then check the parts and recombine them on the other end.
No archiving, no unarchiving, everything in one step. Individuals mostly use split files. Scene posts by IRC bots still use RAR files. I don't know what the par2 internals are, but par2cmdline can easily deal with split files with "par2 r basename.par2 basename.*". |

RE: unpak script Exception
Hi these aren't split files but rar files with .001,.002.. format, and posted with a script to rename them (to .rar,.r00 format ) , and a par set that may refer to either the old or new name. All posted by the same poster at the same time. Very odd!
