Quote:Have you actually tried connecting to the MSP from outside your office?? I brought the box to a friends house who has 30 Mbps download/15 Mbps upload (Verizon Fios, he was trying it at that speed for a month) and it still is as slow as at my work with a T1 and at my house with 15 Mbps download/2 Mbps upload. If I try the html file it plays perfectly from all locations.

pardizzone,

I tried CrankyGeeks 099 (http://feeds.ziffdavis.com/~r/ziffdavis/...s.099.mov) from MSP Portal and local HTML from USB, both behave exactly same when streaming from CrankyGeeks. Our Internet bandwidth is 2Mbps downlink and 2 Mbps uplink SDSL and is kind of slow when stream US content as our ISP's International backbone is slow.

Please PM your email address to me and I will send you the static CrankyGeeks HTML UI (same as MSP Portal) to check on USB drive.

Thanks.

I tried sending you 2 pms but both just sit in the Outbox and never send. I sent others that go right through so pm me your email and I'll reply from my email if you want...

Martin!

No, t doesn't work.

I added /&ext=.mp3 to the url. This changes the behaviour of the unit - it now accepts the url BUT just sits there saying BUFFERING 0%.

I used .mpg also - same outcome.

The actual stream as reported by Radioscreamer is mpeg2 layer 3.

Anybody got any ideas on how to solve this?

Still confused
Okay, guys ... can somebody post an url for a radio stream which you know works directly from a html page.

I can't get any urls I've chosen to work.

Is there a solution to my problem?

I've suddenly realised that this forum only applies to the actual media tank unit. I have a bluetinum syabas based player. I guess the direct url method isn't implemented in its firmware. This has to be the only reason why the direct url doesn't work.

However, if I used the inbuilt Vtuner option I can get to Virgin radio via the Vtuner page and that plays okay.

So I would have imagined that a direct url stream should be accessible somehow.

I would appreciate a reply from Syabas!

What is a meta tag
In my attempts to get a radio stream working, I looked at the mspportal pages. On one which actually works for me, the page source shows a SYABAS-PLAYERMODE="map" meta tag.

What does this do? It isn't documented anywhere I can discover.
Could it help me to get a stream working?

Why don't you start a new thread with your specific issue. You may get more help then in this thread.

If you've been following my search for an answer to the BBC stream .... the solution is to link to the appropriate .pls file.

Cheers

Ok, got the files this morning. Tested from both USB and internal drive. Loads the html file in less then 2 seconds (compared to over a minute to load the MSP, arrow over to Cranky Geeks, click OK to load), and it streams locally without any issues. What I did notice is when playing via USB, after I pressed Play or OK to start an episode, it would hit the USB drive (the access led on thumb drive lit up) several times. So that leads me to believe it is hitting the MSP when trying to play, although it plays without issue locally. When playing directly from the MSP over internet, it sometimes studders/audio skips. I tried it multiple times from USB, HDD and MSP directly. USB and HDD worked every time, MSP worked 2 out of 4 times (i.e. no studder/audio drops on 2 of the tries).

I think that using the MSP locally is still overkill unless you make it so the user can easily add a new feed and it will parse the xml from the feed for them. I would not want to have to edit the html code every time theres a new episode added. On the current MSP Portal, do you manually update the links for each episode?

Also it doesn't display all the text from the descriptions for each episode. It only has one line at the bottom that trails off with ... Like for Episode 100 of CG it says:

Episode 100!!, Macworld Recap, Apple's Movie Rentals, 40 Hours of Ba...

The actual text from the feed is this:

Episode 100!!, Macworld Recap, Apple's Movie Rentals, 40 Hours of Battery Life?, a $2,500 Car, and more...

pardizzone,

The RSS feeds on MSP Portal is update automatically.

This is strange, by right it should access directly to the CrankyGeeks. Maybe this is the root cause, we will investigate why there is access to the UI files even the video feeds are point to CrankyGeeks.

Thanks.

This was truncated by server due to browser only can display single line description when the item is focused.

I think this needs to be fix so you can read the whole description not just 1 line.....

And the speed of the portal loading is unacceptable, IMHO. A full minute to get to the CG link is really a long time and this is from my 15Mbit connection. My other streamer loads a feed with "full" text description in less then 8 seconds. Sometimes it is takes 40 seconds for the main MSP page to come up.
