Can't rewind MKV video files...
I've seen some posts but no real answers. Why can't I rewind MKV video files that are downloaded onto the hard drive of my PCH-A100? I get an "exclamation mark" icon come up on the screen when I press the rewind button. Works on other files alright but not on MKV's... Please advise... I'm running the latest firmware... Thanks...

RE: Can't rewind MKV video files...
Nope, you can't use the rewind button. However, you can use the left and right arrow keys -- they function like seek time. Pressing the left arrow key will seek a few seconds (I think around 30 secs) behind, and pressing the right arrow key will seek forward.

By using the "seek time" method, it's easier and faster to back several seconds. PCH A110 (Stable f/ware), HDMI to Viewsonic N4261W at 1080p60, Optical to Sony 5.1 Decoder/Amplifier TA-VE215. |

You can also use the number keys. '1' will seek to 10% of the file. '2' will seek 20%, '3' 30%, etc...

RE: Can't rewind MKV video files...
I'm curious too about the technical reasons why you can't rewind a .mkv file in the PH. Is rewind not supported by the built-in h.264 decoder chip?
Chris, can you comment on whether or not "rewind a .mkv file" is going to get onto the product roadmap for the NMT? |

^yes, once the new libraries are integrated into the firmware, rewinding in mkv's will be possible.

RE: Can't rewind MKV video files...
Hope this comes soon - I was playing with Western Digital's player ($100) - I can't remember for sure but I do know it did at least 16x fast forward, but may have been up to 32x fast forward and rewind. Either way it's disappointing to know that it is superior to the PCH in this regard. (It was also superior in other regards such as browsing your movie library - it is much more "pretty" and faster with the WD player - i.e. no hesitation going from page to page like the PCH.

I am not able to use any of the other methods to search an MKV. I cannot jump to a % nor seek using the arrow keys. Is something wrong with my box?

RE: Can't rewind MKV video files...
Come on get real, think about it how could your unit have been made to not GOTO etc. and everyone else's works.
Reboot, then try an MKV via USB or from an internal HDD. Make sure the MKV is not VC-1 inside as they do not GOTO etc. for everyone. VC-1 MKV's originate from HD-DVD which as a dying format will not get anyomore enginnering resorces over other formats. Is something wrong with my box? no something is wrong with your mkv If its a standard h264 mkv, then Remux it with mkvmerge to fix the indexing which will allow for time seeking operations. No, I think he's using the << arrow keys which is basically the fast forward. We mean the left or right on the disc on the remote. Hit those. Try hitting the numbers on the numberpad portion.

RE: Can't rewind MKV video files...
So why is it that Rewind works for a HD XviD file (e.g. 720p) but won't work with a lower resolution MKV file? This is the experience I've had. It can't really be based only on the decoding power needed since the lower res MKV (h.264) file would probably require less processing power to decode. Correct me if I'm wrong.

RE: Can't rewind MKV video files...
Most MKV files are 720p and upwards. You do get some lower resolutions from say DVD's but they will have high bitrate generally.
What makes you think that playback of an MKV requires less processing power, even if there is a resolution difference? We have haali (of haali MKV splitter infamy) as a member and NMT owner perhaps you could PM him to get an idea of the cpu requirements of xvid over MKV for differing resolutions and bitrates, would be very interesting.
