A110 Plays in slow motion
Hi!
I have a problem with some mkv and vob files I cant explain. Sometimes it start play either in slow motion mode or choppy. Same file may play OK from the begining and in the middle it slows down and plays as it was on "low gear" .Also, the same file may play OK today and in slow tomorrow. Yesterday I was watching DVD , to be exact VOB files one by one and it was ok at the begining. Right at the middle of movie it started. I tried to play some VOB's I watched few minutes ago and couldnt. It only happens with ISO, MKV & VOB's. The regular AVi plays very good. Please let me know if you have any idea on the root of a problem. Thank you, manoso |

RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
If it stutters on mkv then it could be network problems if you are playing via network.
How are you playing and how are you connected. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
It is network connected through 200 Mbps Powerline Netgear HD Ethernet Adapters (http://www.netgear.com/Products/Powerlin...X101.aspx)
I experimented and tried to play Vob & Iso of the same movie - while Vob played OK, the ISO was in slow motion again.

RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
Any chance you could try a straight cat5 connection (no powerline), just to rule them out?

RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
ISO and HD are the ones that require the quickest network speeds. It does look as if wired is your only option just try it to test to get to the bottom of the issue.

RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
I tried with hard wire connection today and nothing changed
. The strange thing is that some of the files I couldnt play yesterday I played today without any problems. And other way around, some of files I played this morning, I couldnt watch this evening, they was playing in slow motion. Most of the time it is not choppy, its just plays very slow, but smooth .

RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
Some of your HD files will probably be out of spec and wont play on anything other than a PC.
Unless you get more specific when connected via wired and list the files that dont play then we wont know. Connect via wired and try to play some files. As soon as you find one that doesnt play correctly then run it through mediainfo and copy/paste results. Then reboot your PCH and carry on until you have the next file, note spec, reboot and then carry on to the next until you have 3 or 4. Post them and we'll see if its file related or not. If not then its network and we can move on to other suggestions. RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
I have similar problems with a lot of files. Sometimes choppy right from the start, sometimes it plays fine for a minute, then at a certain point begins to stutter a lot.
There are parts of a certain movie that never stutter, others always stutter. I've checked settings like 1080p24 instead of 1080p60 and going to 23.976 too, but that didn't make any difference. Network is 100Mbit/sec wired and being read from a fast PC (tried a NAS as well). One the first file below (Star Wars), when I press the info-button twice (showing the bandwidth of the movie), it shows that it's an H264 movie and the bandwidth varies between 6 and 12Mbps. Then at a certain point, the movie starts stuttering and at the same time the bandwidth information just disapears, leaving only 'H264'. Some info on 3 of the files (1 WMV, 1 TS and 1 MKV) : ----FILE1---- General Complete name : F:\HD\star.wars.episode.vi.return.of.the.jedi.1983.1080p.hdtv.x264-hv\Star.Wars.Episode.VI.Return.Of.The.Jedi.1983.1080p.HDTV.x264-hV.mkv Format : Matroska File size : 7.95 GiB Duration : 2h 9mn Overall bit rate : 8 804 Kbps Encoded date : UTC 2007-08-06 20:44:49 Writing application : mkvmerge v2.0.2 ('You're My Flame') built on Feb 21 2007 23:40:55 Writing library : libebml v0.7.7 + libmatroska v0.8.1 Video Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L5.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 8 frames Muxing mode : Container profile=Unknown@5.1 Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 2h 9mn Bit rate : 8 061 Kbps Nominal bit rate : 8 416 Kbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 816 pixels Display aspect ratio : 2.35 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.215 Writing library : x264 core 56 svn-667C Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:-4:-4 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=6 / brdo=1 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=2 / deadzone=4,6 / chroma_qp_offset=0 / threads=3 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / mbaff=0 / bframes=3 / b_pyramid=1 / b_adapt=1 / b_bias=0 / direct=3 / wpredb=1 / bime=1 / keyint=250 / keyint_min=25 / scenecut=40(pre) / rc=2pass / bitrate=8416 / ratetol=1.0 / rceq='blurCplx^(1-qComp)' / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30 / aq=1:0.3:15.0 Language : English Audio Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Codec ID : A_AC3 Duration : 2h 9mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 384 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Language : English Text Format : UTF-8 Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8 Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text Language : English Out of spec HP@L4.1 max ----FILE2---- General Complete name : C:\copy\Movies\Earth.1080p.NL\Earth.NLsubs.WVC1.1080p-VisualScumBagz.wmv Format : Windows Media File size : 7.82 GiB Duration : 1h 39mn Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 11.3 Mbps Maximum Overall bit rate : 32.3 Mbps Encoded date : UTC 2008-07-31 08:26:50.895 Video Format : VC-1 Format profile : AP@L3 Codec ID : WVC1 Codec ID/Hint : Microsoft Description of the codec : Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile Duration : 1h 39mn Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 10.6 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16/9 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.213 Language : Dutch Audio Format : WMA3 Format profile : M2 Codec ID : 162 Codec ID/Info : Windows Media Audio 3 Description of the codec : Windows Media Audio 10 Professional - 640 kbps, 48 kHz, 5.1 channel 24 bit 2-pass CBR Duration : 1h 39mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 640 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 24 bits Language : Dutch ----FILE3---- General ID : 1 Complete name : F:\HD\Band of Brothers-Episode 5+6 1080p\TRANQUALIZER PRESENTS ''Band of Brothers-Episode 5+6'' 1080p for PLAYSTATION 3\BAND OF BROTHERS EPISODE 6 AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM\00001.m2ts Format : BDAV Format/Info : BluRay Video File size : 5.02 GiB Duration : 1h 7mn Overall bit rate : 10.7 Mbps Maximum Overall bit rate : 35.5 Mbps High but should be OK with wired and http, not with SMB or NFS Video ID : 4113 (0x1011) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L4.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 3 frames Duration : 1h 7mn Bit rate : 8 710 Kbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16/9 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Audio ID : 4352 (0x1100) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : DTS Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems Duration : 1h 7mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 536 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 16 bits Language : English Text ID : 4608 (0x1200) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : PGS Video delay : 1h 7mn |

Not sure who put the red comments in, but what would you advise on how to handle these files ?
Is there some way to convert them ? |

RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
Sorry it was me and like now I was in a rush to leave for work.
First file will need a recode, try a different version as its usually quicker to redownload a working version. Always try the sample file that usually comes with releases first. Any HP@L5.1 with >5 reference frames will struggle the bigger the resolution the last chance it will play. Use http streaming and convert your mkv files to m2ts with TSMuxerGUI, takes 5 mins to give best chance. RE: A110 Plays in slow motion
It's not the resolution.
1080p simply states how many pixels (1920x1080) What it doesn't tell you is how many frames it wants to make up those pixels, some modern video encoding standards, such as H.264/AVC, allow the use of multiple reference frames. This allows the video encoder to choose among more than one previously decoded frame on which to base each macroblock in the next frame. (disclaimer stole some from liarpedia) The processing required to do this can be silly, and is beyond the spec of the original video (normally blu-ray). Blu-ray only supports HP4.0 so it's actually poor encoding to go higher. http://rapidshare.com/files/124061094/Bi..._.mkv.html Have a go with that file (use it wired, it's too high spec for wireless or homeplugs). |

Edit: In theory these should be able to cope with streaming of 1080p, no? I know that this is reliant on your home's wiring, etc... Do you think this will stand a chance with the new Belkin 1GBs when someone eventually has them in stock? |
