DTS sound through home theatre setup
i have just bought an LG home theater DVD player and 5.1 surround sound setup http://uk.lge.com/products/model/detail/...3su.jhtml. I note from the specs it decodes DTS.
I have connected the popcorn via the audio output to the audio input on the dvd player, i select aux on the DVD player and for the non DTS files (mainly mkv's) i can hear the sound but it seems to only play from 2 channels front left and right plus the subwoofer, is that correct?.
When i try a sample movie with a DTS soundtrack i get no sound whatsoever.
I have searched on the forums but cannot find a definitive answer to my question.
Any help or advice gratefully appreciated Smile

RE: DTS sound through home theatre setup
Some home theatres only decode DTS from their own dvd player. What model is your LG?

Also, in what way have you got it connected from the PCH?

RE: DTS sound through home theatre setup
Sorry mate, it doesn't look like that model supports external DTS or AC3 decoding. The LG site won't let me download the manual, but the 28 meg brochure doesn't give much away at all.

The PCH will downmix an AC3 track to two channel, but won't downsample DTS. You would need an A110 for that.

Are you connecting via the two red and white audio leads, or via an optical or single co-axial plug?

On a related note, it does make me laugh when manufacturers quote 300w output, but only a 50w power draw.. Someone give them a nobel prize for breaking the first law of thermodynamics. Sorry, pet peeve there.

Bugger!!, thanks for the confirmation. Can you recomend a cheapish setup that will do the job?

RE: DTS sound through home theatre setup
I'd recommend seeking out an AV receiver/tuner, Richer Sounds in the UK often have some nice ex demo stock, I bought my Aiwa tuner from them about 5 years ago for £120. There is a very nice Harman Kardon AV receiver on Ebay for £160, will be buying one later this month, 'cos I feel like upgrading.

These systems come without speakers, but you can easily use the speakers from your existing setup, they look rather nice, from the marketing blurb.

Yep pick up something like that;

Denon 1706 would do the job too.
