[A-110] Copying files fails, Unit Freezes
I recently added an internal HD to my A110.

I upgraded the firmware, and ran through the NMT wizard. I had some issues copying over files (the transfer would fail, and the A110 would stop responding).

Chris57 responded, suggesting I re-install the firmware, etc

I followed his instructions, and I also re-installed the NMT software from a USB flash drive.

I am still having issues that prevent us from using the NMT. Many shows freeze, and the NMT stops responding (I have to pull the plug).

Copying files is also hit and miss - quite often, the transfer hangs, and I get a message saying that the A110 is no longer available. Again the unit is not responding to the remote control, and I have to pull out the power plug and put it back in before it responds.

Prior to using the hard drive and upgrading the bios, I ran everything off an external USB drive, and I had no issues at all.

I am at my wits end. The hard drive is an Samsung 250 gig older SATA. I had no issues formatting it, etc.

The only thing I did not do the last time I ran through the NMT install is do a fresh format on the drive. That said, some files play through successfully one day, and freeze on another.

Any suggestions?

RE: [A-110] Copying files fails, Unit Freezes
I get this problem as well... when trying to copy files from a usb hard drive. I also can freeze the a110 if i play a 1080p movie from the usb hdd, about 1-2 minutes into the movie (when the unit would freeze on file copy).

I hookup the usb drive to windows XP, and play across a samba share with no problems. I think there may be a bug in the firmware/drivers for the usb mass storage device.

RE: [A-110] Copying files fails, Unit Freezes
I have had the same issue tonight.
Unit hangs when copying file to a usb drive. I thinmk it might coincide with the screen saver timout so i have changed this and will try again tomorrow. I also have to pull the plug and reconnect to get it to work again. Very annoying.

Not freezing during watching a film at least! I managed to watch an mkv tonight without a hang so just wondering if it is the inactivity time (screen saver kicking in)which is causing it???

RE: [A-110] Copying files fails, Unit Freezes
If there is a problem then we need to be able to reproduce it in the Syabas labs.

Each of you make sure you are doing exactly the same thing when you get the freeze. Is it when copying or when playing back copied files from USB or ALL files from wherever.
How are each of your USB HDD's formatted and also your NMT internal HDD's.
And so on try to keep it simple but make sure that we are all talking about the same problem, freezing can be caused by many differing things, networks, bad copying, bad encoding errors, file format, etc. etc.

If you think its the screen saver then time it and see how long, is it the same for each of you.

It will take some time and investigation but it is only through spending the time doing this that it is possible to produce detailed meaningfull test results to give Syabas Engineers something to go on rather than 'its freezing', I know im being slightly simplistic there Big Grin

The video_ts folder stutter that had plagued the firmware for ages was solved from beginnings like this when a fellow member spent quite sometime and produced a nice detailed reports showing testing with different videos, bitrates, etc etc.

I found my "freeagent" usb drive in the HDD compatibility thread with someone else stating the exact same problem. Coping/playing from a 4gig USB stick works fine. Guess i'll have to buy another remove-able HDD that is more compatible.

RE: [A-110] Copying files fails, Unit Freezes
Hello

just bought a PCH A-110. As copying from PC using SMB was terribly slow I tried connecting an USB drive and copying using filemode. Unfortunately the unit freezes (black screen) after a few minutes and I need to reset it

Specs.

- Last available firmware
- USB HD is 320 Gb, NTFS using an Artek ICY BOX
- HD has no problems whatsoever with Windows XP.

Mmm, not a very good start!
Is FTP faster?

RE: [A-110] Copying files fails, Unit Freezes
Chrtis I changed the screen saver timout to 60 mins but now when i try to copy/ move files then I am only getting the option to add the file to the list but not to copy file here when browsing to the target location?? Basically i dont get the copy or move file here option anymore. I tried this by copying from usb top Internal HDD and even from USB to another location on the same USB drive still dont get the full menu options after adding the file to the list.I have tried powering down and then rebooting but sill same results. Not sure now. Usb it ntfs and internal disk is ext3

any ideas?

[WORKAROUND]
I had the same problem with my portable hdd. When copying files from external to internal hdd the unit would completely freeze (hard reboot necessary). I have now reformatted my external hdd to ext2 filesystem and the problem appears to be solved. I just copied about 120 GB over from external to internal hdd and no freezes yet. I hope this works for other people also.
