No sound from an MKV file on A-100 , but perfectly fine on A-110 upstairs
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting sound to play from my A-100 from a file on it's HD on MKV format. The A-100 is connected to my tv via hdmi. When I stream the file to my upstairs A-110, which is connected via component, the sound plays perfectly. Any ideas of what might be causing this? Many thanks! |

RE: No sound from an MKV file on A-100 , but perfectly fine on A-110 upstairs
The file propably have DTS audio which the A100 does not decode itself, while the A110 does.
This is one of the differences between the A100 and the A110 Living room: C200/A200/A100 HDMI to Pioneer KURO KRP-500A plasma / Denon AVR 3808 / KEF 5005.2 / B&W DM685 Kids room: C200/A110 HDMI to Panasonic 42PZ85, Optical to Logitech Z5500. PLEASE READ THE WIKI |

And if my receiver has a DTS decoder but no HDMI, I can connect a digital optical out to the receiver and have sound? Thanks. |

The A100 will not be able to decode DTS, because of licensing.
If you have a receiver with a DTS decoder then you can use the digital out. I'm using a Yamaha RX-V659, which is able to decode DTS. It sounds great :-) NMT:Popcornhour A100 Receiver:Yamaha RX-V659 TV: Sony 32" LCD HD-Ready Storage:LaCie ethernetdisk 500 and a bunch of hdd's in my comp. Remote: Too many, so Harmony 885 |

Thank you. That answers my question
I have a Harman Kardon AVR-325. That should do the trick right? Looks like I was worried over nothing. Guess I'll save my money and get the A100 instead of A110

RE: No sound from an MKV file on A-100 , but perfectly fine on A-110 upstairs
I have a follow up question regarding this. Can i send the DTS sound over the HDMI to my tv and the my TV has an optical output and plug that optical out into my AVR which has an optical in so that i can decode the DTS signal from the mkv movies i have?
Basically my setup: A100 ----HDMI---> Vizio V047LF ---Optical_out---> LG LHT874 Would this work? I have the the HDMI audio set to ON in the A100 settings so wondering if it passes through the DTS audio over HDMI? ![]() Thanks, Dan |

RE: No sound from an MKV file on A-100 , but perfectly fine on A-110 upstairs
No as your TV wont have DTS passthrough, its been tried before by many.
You'll have to go with HDMI to your TV and coaxial to your AVR via an optical to coaxial convertor if your AVR has no coaxial input. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

Should do if it is an AVR. If its one of those home theatre packages check and you wont get HD audio codecs only normal DTS.
