You are comparing apples with oranges. Compare a BD player against the NMT, think of the NMT as a HiFi component rather than comparing against games machines.

Well I'm sorry chris57, but I strongly dissagree with you on this one.
Everybody is searching for a HD media center device to replace the good old xbox xbmc, and one would expect that a new modern device would have a lot more processing power these days than the old Xbox. So OK - that's not a software issue then, but rather a hardware issue.
I'm not comparing a game machine against the NMT. I am comparing a media center against another. Xbox Media Center against Networked Media Tank. Even if you consider them apple vs oranges they ARE opponents aswell as the PS3.

I hope you understand what I mean. A new modern gadget that has less processing power than a very old Xbox1 sounds strange to many ppl.
Stop defending the PCH in ALL situations. I'm not saying that it's a bad product. I love it. I'm just talking facts. Xbox1 was faster than PCH. If that's due to hardware issues or software issues... I really don't care! It's just a fact. So that maby followups to PCH might be more powerful. ...Maby PCH 120(?) might be more powerfull in it's hardware. Smile This thread is about PCH improvements. And that might aswell include hardware improvements.

"Sounds like a small rocket taking off"?? ...I don't know what kind of Xbox you have/had... but mine is quiet Smile

still. I don't want to fiddle around with additional software. I am a full time IT dude, working 10+ hours a day in front of monitors. When I come home, I want to use something that someone else built for me. When I come home, I want to enjoy some movies along with my beer and pizza. When I come home, I don't want to hack my own systems.

If I wanted to fillde around an build something my own, I would have built some sort of home grown HTPC. But because I did NOT want to do this, I bought something like the PCH. And so my first post of this thread still applies: The PCH could use a lot of improvements OUT OF THE BOX. The power of the PCH hardware (e.g. upscaling, deinterlacing etc.) coupled with the power of Boxee, Plex and the likes. I don't understand why something like that hasn't been done already.

I am not saying the PCH is bad. But it could do a lot better.

Totaly agree!!!
The day there comes a Media Box that's working with Great GUI with ex imdb etc and better libraries, faster scrolling and RAR-support right out of the box. ...The PCH will be history. That's why we're all here trying to give our oppinions of what WE - THE BUYERS want! So instead of just defending the PCH on and on and on... try to listen to our oppinions instead. After all - we HAVE the PCH and we love it. We just want a development. Not everybode wants to fiddle with the freaking PCH on and on and on just to get it to work satisfying. Not everybode who owns it are programmers or IT-, Unix-, softwaredevelopment -experts you know...

RE: PCH needs major improvements
Ha ha, I have to laugh in agreement. I've been programming in Unix for twenty two years. When I come home I want to put the kids to bed and then have my pizza and beer and use a machine that someone else has built for me.

I don't want to have to telnet into a box to go searching for some undocumented log file. Sure, I know how to do it, but I just don't have the time these days.

I'm not going to say the PH "Needs Major Improvements", but if something faster and cleaner comes along (even at triple the price) I'm going to buy it.

Robby,
Yeah, I just reread my post and I realized that I should have said, "This is the best deal for the price on the market today... hands down!" I really like my popcorn hour as well, but not quite "love".

if triple the price is not an issue, I would recommend spending a lot of time at the xbmc linux forum. they have XBMC ported to linux, so if you have the skills to build a small quiet HTPC running XBMC, you can probably get what you want for the most part. or wait a bit as linux drivers seem to be making some improvements which might bring down some of the HTPC horsepower needs.

RE: PCH needs major improvements
Calvin,
I'm considering building myself an HTPC for sure... but I really don't have the time right now; thus the desire to buy something that just works out of the box. I love building computers, by the way... I really would prefer to build my own solution; just don't have the time.

RE: PCH needs major improvements
Yeh sure, good bang for the buck AT THE MOMENT. Sure is a better bang than the tvix. I'm just saying: We should try to keep PCH one step ahead. Better GUI and rar-support out of the box would be nice. And better/faster scrolling should be possible with databases.

Use a lite plugin version via myihome (no ISO files) or go with the full version (plays ISO files) read the forum videojukebox section.

Can you make the index fil for YAMJ on the PCH? or for any of the others jukeboxes?

RE: PCH needs major improvements
Yes you can.

Theres the kdoske theme which does that....alexnc's index does that. And then myself and others have done a few in "the index.htm" thread.
btw, for the record i like the PCH as it is. I like that i can tweak it to do the things i want. If it was GUI right out of the box i'm sure it'd be nice...but it'd probably be less open to user configuration.

The only things i'd definitly change are browsing durring music play back. And being able to mount more then 1 share at a time.

RE: PCH needs major improvements
Well if its a index.htm file in theory it should...as long as the source you have it on was the last source you browsed.

However if you use a UI replacement like start.cgi (aka user.homepage) then it will 100% boot into the index every time. And you can get to the index by hitting the source button on your remote.
