RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
You should be getting 'true' USB speeds. Have you an AV app scanning the transfer or something similar?

Dont use Linux so can't help im afriad.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
I only have AVG and windows firewall on XP, don't have any AV on ubuntu linux so i don't think it is that. I will try to reinstall the firmware then check if that helps. Will also try connecting the pch on another pc. I will post the results here once I've done that. thanks.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
I've tried reinstalling the firmware and connected the a110 to a different pc running winXP, still no luck. It's not with the usb cable, is it? or is it a bug with the firmware? anyway, im just gonna take out the HDD and connect it to the PC thru sata for now.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
I have a different question. What exactly speeds are we talking about using this "USB slave" connection?

I just got myself 1TB WD Green disk and want to transfer all data from my 'old' 320Gb external usb disk connected to my laptop.
When I started copying using samba or ftp I thought I literally kill myself! It is sooooooooo slow!;(

Now, I am willing to get this USB cable but is it really worth it?
I mean... will I be able to experience USB 2.0 speeds? I do not expect to be as fast as copying from one internal disk to another but still would like to know what average transfer speeds you guys are experiencing.
Thanks.

UPDATE:
I got the cable anyway and got terrible speed!Sad about 500kB/s. Everything went smooth with installation. Disk was easily mounted however every time I connect the transfer is even worse than over smb or ftpSad what is also interesting is the fact that internal transfer is also super-slow. I tried to make a copy in the same folder on the internal disk in pch and the transfer was also bad... if anyone has any idea what is wrong please share this as I am really out of ideasSad

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
I haven't tried internal transfer yet. might try that once i get home. although 500kB/s is indeed very slow. I guess mine is a little better at 2MB/s. "True" USB 2.0 speeds theoretically should be at 60MB/s but i could only get around 30-40 MB/s on my usb drives. I would really appreciate it if anybody could shed a light on this. Or should we be filing a bug report?

60meg? lolSmile I would be happy with 10 not even dreaming of 20-30Sad Good to know I am not alone with this problem:/

OK, UPDATE:
Its not the PCH, neither internal disk.
Its Windows...well, USB drivers (I guess)..
.
I couldn't let go so today I was playing with Knoppix USB edition HERE and it turned out to work GREAT! Transfer is like it should be! Copying takes minutes rather than hours and it easily mounts all windows NTFS drives (though you can only access them not write to them - but that's ok since we are only interested in writing to our pch internal disk)

I don't really know how to fix this without reinstalling windows - which I am not interested in. Removing all usb devices from hardware manager does not help (tried already). Maybe USB 2.0 drivers update would help but I don't know how to do it.
So the good thing is it's not pch fault but driver/os problem. Hope it helps and those who have problems will be able to use knoppix "trick".
Thanks

Great thread, was also using FTP to transfer and decided to give this a go. With 15mb/s it was a pleasure to watch, ty.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Hi
I received my HDX last week and installed a 1,5 TB HDD. I installed theIFS drivers on my PC. After formatting and updating the HDD with the HDX, i removed it and put it in my PC so that i could faster transfer movies onto it. It worked fine, but when i reinstalled the HDD to the HDX the transfered data wasn´t visible in the file list. Help! I don´t want to transfer all the stuff again!

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Can anyone help me out?
Just got the HDX with a harddrive : Western Digital 1TB SATA300 32MB, WD10EADS.

I've put it in myself. After downloading the drivers from this forumtopic, my windows vista did notice
the HD well... heres the picture:

After opening my computer it doesn't notices the harddrive...
What am i doing wrong? I'm still a noob with all these things Smile

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
Looks like either you have not installed the NMT Apps on the HDD or you are still connected and using the NMT via ethernet or TV thereby using the HDD as an internal HDD rather than a USB external HDD.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI

You were right, i didn installed the Apps, done it everyworks fine, got the files stored. One last question.. why don't my subtitles display?

I've put them in the same folder as the movie with the same name.
Off topic which in the guide threads is an absolute no no. Select a language in Settings>Audio/Video and ensure they are in a format that do play. Any further problem with subs please post in Subtitles section.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
So I got myself a WD 1TB 7200 WD10EADS and I :

- Installed the NMT apps & formatted to Ext3
- Unplugged all cables except my usb to pc
- Assigned a Driveletter with IFS

I'm using XP SP2, I can browse the content of the HDD but can't copy anything since the disk has a writeprotection.

How exactly do I remove that ? Checked Sharing & Security options of the drive but didn't notice anything special.

Disc should not be write protected, have you actually formatted and installed NMT Apps? Also try the XP Ext drivers as per Q7A first question.

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
hi, newbie here too. i have installed a internal hd on my popcorn and that is working great. formatted and have no probs seeing thison my pc and transferring files. have connected a external hard drive to the popcorn hour via usb , and while the pch is connected to my pc, can see the internal drive but not the external ( on my pc that is)
does this external drive need formatting too? and if so can i do this without having to reformat my internal drive?

RE: How-To: Transfer files via USB slave from PC to NMT
If you want access to an USB attached HDD why not simply unplug from the PCH and then plug it in to your PC. You will not need Ext drivers unless it is formatted to Ext but you do not need USB slave.
To see a HDD that is attached by USB to the PCH you have to turn ON SMB server app and use your network.
