I've had luck with both AC3 audio and setting up Swiss Center on the HDMR 2000.

For the AC3 sound to be heard, you'll need to get a home theater system that has an optical in port. I picked up a technics from craig's list for $100. After plugging in the optical cable, I set the theater system to TV/DSS and got sound. The optical in port is on the back of the HDMR, it's what that thin little cable with what looks like lightbulbs on the ends is for. The bulbs are dust covers; remove them before plugging the cable in.

If you have an optical in, mp3 audio will also travel through the surround system as well as out of the TV speakers.

To set up swiss center, I set SERVER_PORT to 8080.

Great work, so I understand the part about connecting the HDMR to the Technics.. but how do you feed the audio back to the TV if you are using the HDMI out? Or do we have to use the component out from the technics?

I have a Sceptre Naga 23" HDTV that my HDMR is attached to. To get the video, I've used the HDMI cable and attached it to the HDMI in on the TV. With that set, I got picture, but only sound if the audio was mp3. Then I got the technics. I ran the optical audio cable from the back of the technics to the back of the HDMR. I now can hear video with ac3 audio; the audio comes out of the speakers attached to the technics. The audio will not come out of the TV speakers. I'm guessing this is because the HDMR doesn't have a built in AC3 module. Since there is now an audio path to my new external speakers, the mp3 audio will go out that as well as my TV speaker's as well.

I hope this is a bit more clear.

I just noticed the photo. Oops. Smile

The technics you've pictured is just slightly different from mine, but the set up was easy.

Pop the optical audio into the "Digital In (TV)" slot.

Connect speakers to the speaker and surround spots.

Enjoy ac3.

RE: viewsonic hdmr-2000
I had a sony c770 with a broken dvd player lying in the garage. I connected the hdmr optical out to the in of sony and voila ac3 videos have sound..great and thanks.

Have you tried connected a USB drive to the HDMR? The board does have support for it..but I guess there needs to firmware support for it as well.
