It doesnt do anything for quality at all when the content are of such low specs - the encoding to L5.1 from the scene was propably due to several things
1. hardwaredevices where not around when rips started to become available - thus they were only tested on computers using softwaredecoding which decodes anything. 2. many encoding tools defaulted to L5.1 so if you werent aware and changed it you would end up with L5.1 encodes. 3. it was "new ground" - all beginning is difficult and finding common standards takes a litle time - just like optimizing a new device like the PH takes a litle time. But it seems that some of the better scene groups now are getting a better understanding of this and are releasing more in L4.1 than in L5.1 |
