You need also a windows driver if you want to access the drive to copy movies/files on it.

See the following thread:

RE: How do I format my external HD to ext3?
i used gparted, as recommended above, to format my ext hd WD 1TB to ext3.

i booted the pc with a gparted cd, formatted it to ext3. i have the windows driver installed to view ext2 and 3 (i can see popcorn in windows without a problem) but when i access the external HD in vista, it says it needs to be formatted. And i can only choose fat32 or ntfs.

any advice would be appreciated.

thanks.

i dl'ed ext2fsd now, and in the ext volume manager i see the HD, but it says, total size 931 GB, used 931 GB. I just formatted it so its empty.

RE: How do I format my external HD to ext3?
Follow the guide, do NOT format the drive if asked by the PC/app.
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=12176
Simply exit after installation and reboot, best driver depends on which Windows OS. Anyway all the information required is in the guide.

A400: SD Card(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD ROM (SH-B083L(SB01)), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV Panasonic TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

it wont load it on my vista 64. it says it's not digitally signed and does not load. the other driver doesnt work for me.

in ext2ifs in configuration , i see the drive formatted as 'linux' and i can assign it a letter.
But when in vista i go to the drive, its says it needs to be formatted.

i tried both drivers, no succes.

any more advice would be very appreciated, cause i want to fill it up asap Smile

thanks

RE: How do I format my external HD to ext3?
Can the NMT setup format an external drive to EXT3 or do you have to use an app such as Gparted?

Thanks

nmt can format the internal HDD to ext3. not external.

i still haven't been able to format my ext. WD my Book 1TB to ext3 with gparted. Made nfts now. i don't use nzb/torrents on pch A-110, so i think it's not a problem then?

RE: How do I format my external HD to ext3?
I am having the same issue as Sabon described with my usb Freecom Mobile XXS drive,

I also booted my Vista pc with a gparted cd and formatted it to ext3. I have the 'Ext2IFS_1_11a.exe' installed using the instructions in http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=12176

Like Sabon I can access (and transfer to and from) my popcornhour drive (using Vista) without a problem. When I access the external HD in Vista via the explorer, it says it needs to be formatted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Update: solved the issue using Willem53's description in: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...p?tid=7014

RE: How do I format my external HD to ext3?
I have bad experiences with both XP and OSX ext2/3 drivers. In case of the PCH, I think it's more safe to do things on the device itself, which IS possible in this case.

If you're not afraid of the unix command line, you could install telnetd or ssh (you'll need an internal HDD or USB-key - see the wiki) and use the commands 'fdisk' to partition and 'mke2fs' to format the USB-drive. Just to format it! - if you don't have windows/osx ext3 drivers, you'll have to access the drive via SMB (which is safer anyhow).

If this sounds like it's too complicated - it probably is. But it's not really that difficult if you have some time/patience to google around a bit. Just always make really really sure you're formatting the right /dev (device) - in this case, that will probably be /dev/sda for the USB drive. Note that /dev/hda is the internal HD - a small typo and you lose your internal data...

Good luck!
