Exclamation A100 Arrived (used??)
I ordered an A-100 from SuperBiiz last week:
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=POP-A100&c=fr

It arrived about 30 minutes ago. I noticed as soon as I took it out of the shipping box, something didn't seem right.

1. Rubber band around the Popcorn Hour packaging.
2. Two pieces of "security" tape on the Popcorn Hour packaging. Top layer covering a broken bottom layer.
3. Popcorn Hour A-100 unit has A LOT scratches on the front.
4. Small spot (soda, coffee?) on the top of the unit.

Photos:

I dont think SuperBiiz (retailer) put a second piece of "security" tape on the box, as it has the Popcorn Hour screen printing on the tape.

The reason I am posting here? I was unable to find a way to contact customer service via the popcorn hour website.

- Concerned

* Updated topic

* Revised text of message to be more clear that I'm confused and perhaps someone can shed some light on the subject.

RE: A100 Arrived Used
Where are you located? Did the PCH have to go through customs? They may have opened it.

The 'scratches' on the front are easy to explain - they are not scratches. The front panel has a very thin protective film on it.

To report this to PCH - go here (http://support.popcornhour.com/) - you will have to create an account to open a case!

Why not contact the retailer first?

Quote:3. Popcorn Hour A-100 unit has A LOT scratches on the front.

start by remove the protective plastic covering from the front, and you will see how nice it looks.
(a couple of hundreds other threads about this before - search)

These are not "evidence" that its a used player - just that the packaging has been opened and closed again.
There can be many reasons for that. And the small spot (which I cant see) is neither evidence of use, just evidence of a small spot which could have gotten there for many reasons, during assembly, customs control, reseller control or whatever.

Were there any protective plastic covering on the top ?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have already contacted the retailer, they assured me that they purchased it as "retail" from their supplier.

I'm in the U.S., so customs would explain it, but the second piece of popcorn screen printed tape is a little harder to explain.

I'm contacting popcornhour directly. Again, thanks and I appreciate the friendly reply!

RE: A100 Arrived Used
There is a plastic protective covering on the front plastic panel.
It is quite evident in IMG_1271.

To be honest I cant remember anymore, but even if it was and is missing, it doesnt have to mean its a used player.

My A110 bought in the UK in December '08 had semi-adhesive transparent plastic covering the the top and bottom plates of the case, and the thin semi-translucent film on the front panel.

I wanted to do that as well, but what about the heatsink/thermal glue stuff on the top of the unit? If you flip the cover over, you will have that sticking out now... Or did you just rub/scrap that junk off?

RE: A100 Arrived (used??)
Can the next firmware update please include a new bootup screen -

"Please remember to backup the data on your hard drive - and remove the protective plastic from the front bezel"

Is anyone else tired of this yet?

I think the patience of PCH forums members is fantastic!

This isn't a chat room for PCH fanatics, it is a support board and the sarcasm and short RTFM type retorts are far too common.

If you are tired of it, simply move on to something else and let others help.

Exactly.

Perhaps the fact that the same questions get asked over and over might suggest that the PCH guys might need to update their Documentation... Errrr, actually WRITE some Documentation.

RE: A100 Arrived (used??)
This isn't only a support board. It's a community forum AND support board BY users FOR users.
It also contains a wiki, a good placeholder for important information regarding the NMT units.

If you have the feeling that this is a repeated question, you are very welcome to create a wiki page about it. Searching for "scratched AND cover" gave a whooping 7 hits on this forum, all of them with answers pointing to the thin protective film that should be removed after unwrapping the package.

It will hopefully save some frustration to some new users with similar issues, as well as regular forum members that get tired of new members that doesn't do a forum search. (That was a general reference, Scottk, I have no indication if you indeed tried to search the forum for answers and read up on similar issues previous to posting).

Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn.
Wiki. Wiki? Wiki!
