RE: How does the new bookmark feature work?
So… just to sum up (for me, at least) bookmarks can be user-deleted only by rebooting the PH?

And does ten bookmarks mean ten per vid or ten total?

Pretty sure I know the answer to that one Smile

RE: How does the new bookmark feature work?
Another suggestion for improvement if Syabas cares:
Since only 10 bookmarks are saved it would be nice to have an option to not bookmark when I quit watching a video. This way you wouldn't unnecessarily waste a bookmark slot for Videos that you don't care to bookmark. [Note: This is not to get back to the start of the Video which I can do by pressing Zero but it is to not delete the oldest bookmark]
The way it is implemented now i.e. always bookmark when you stop watching works for 99% of the times, since it is highly likely that you are going to return to that Video later.

The work 'bookmark' creates a somewhat false impression. It is not possible to have several within the same file.

The current implementation supports one resume point per video, in the 10 latest videos that you did not finish watching completely.

Thank you, that's just what I wanted to know.

Is there battery backed SRAM? Seems like that would be a better place to write bookmarks.

No from telnet you can run rm /tmp/mono_bookmark to clear the bookmarks. I have avi files go out of sync so i run a cron job to rm that file every 15 minutes.

All my movies are VOBs (DVD) and this feature does not work for me either. Is there something we are doing wrong or is this a big that you can please fix.

I also like the option to use logic to determine if a HD is present, if so use that if not use flash.

Thanks.

It's not really a bug, it's just that at present it does not work for VOBs or DVD ISOs or VIDEO_TS folders (the main reason for this situation being that these files are played back using a different player application than other video files, hence a separate feature has to be developed for that playback application).

I can't remember whether we have a promise from Syabas that this will be fixed or not.

As for your final sentence, this has also been requested before, but I don't think we have the request confirmed or refuted as yet either.

I just bought an internal HDD partly so I could upgrade to the latest firmware to use bookmarks for my kids' ripped DVDs - and bookmarking won't work on them?! Seems to me VOBs, ISOs and VIDEO_TS would be the most important/frequent things to bookmark. Or are people using a different format for DVDs?

No need to shoot the messenger. I am not a Syabas representative. Just like everybody else on this forum with the exception of werner, I am just another user.

The bookmark feature should ideally work on all file types, of course. But since "mono" plays many more formats than "amp_test" (only DVD structures), it makes good sense to me that they started out implementing it in mono.

I don't know, but I would guess most people who back up their own DVDs do use DVD structures just like you - however, many users did not buy their NMT player primarily as a backup device for DVDs, but rather to watch high definition rips in .mkv format, and .avi (XviD and DivX) files, both of which are played by mono.

As for ripping DVDs to other formats, I know people talked about using mkv for that as well, but I am not familiar with the process and/or the limitations personally.

RE: How does the new bookmark feature work?
cheaper_popcorn - I didn't mean that as an attack on you, just a general whine.
The PCH for me is also as a music jukebox and HD player (new HD camcorder on the way too) so it's still quite useful - we were all just excited about the bookmarking.

Werner - any idea if bookmarking ISOs is in the future?
