How to stream PC desktop audio/video to PCH with VLC?
I've been streaming SOPCast through VLC to my Popcorn hour and it works just fine.

Now I would like to stream my PC desktop audio/video to the PCH but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

Has anyone successfully done this and can provide the VLC arguments that will make it happen? Angle

RE: How to stream PC desktop audio/video to PCH with VLC?
Actually, I installed the latest version of VLC and now I can't stream SOPCast either -- says VLC could not open the encoder so it seems the mp1v codec was uninstalled when I upgraded Undecided

Here's the command line I used to stream the SOPCast stream to the PCH:

Code:
vlc.exe -vvv http://127.0.0.1:8902 --sout #transcode{vcodec=mp1v,vb=1024,scale=1,acodec=mpga,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,dst=:1234}}

What other codings can the PCH take? It seems whatever I choose other then mp1v won't play.

Why it has to be done via VLC ? Maybe you should configure Folders Sharing (smb protocol) on your PC and then use Network Browser on PCH. Using this method You'll be able to browse PC's folders on PCH exacly same way as local hard drive.

Not quite following you - can you watch a video of your PC desktop through SMB?

I want to watch a icehockey game I will buy online and it plays on the PC.

I'm not sure if I understand correctly what You want to do. If you have some media files (audio, video) on your PC you can enable Folder Sharing for folders that contain this files. Then, when you enter Network Browser on PCH you should be able to browse this folders, and watch your media files as long as they are supported by PCH. I've enabled sharing for my entire PC, and it's file system is visible on my PCH so I can browse my PC's whole hard drive on PCH and watch all media on TV (as long as my PC is powered on).

No, there is no file. It's a video playing in a web browser on the webpage of the TV network that shows the icehockey game Smile

I want to stream the content of the PC screen so that I can watch the game in my home theater instead of watching it on the computer.

In the SOPCast case it's also a live stream (SOPCast) which I've had VLC convert into a stream that the PCH can connect to and play, so there is no files involved, only live streams.

RE: How to stream PC desktop audio/video to PCH with VLC?
I'm about to go crazy over this.

Code:
c:\Program\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe screen:// :screen-fps=30 :screen-caching=100 :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp1v,vb=2048,scale=1,acodec=mpga,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,dst=:1234}}

I actually managed to get screen capture image with this but no audio!

What's most disturbing is that it wont play every time and screen only says "buffering" forever. But a few times it has started playing the stream. Also, I found - what might be a coincidence but anyways - that it can start playing if I unplug the PCH from the power and try from scratch. Very strange.

It would be awesome if I could do this.

I've uninstalled 0.9.8 and installed 0.8.6 and now the SOPCast stream works and the mp1v encoder is in place.

So, for all you that haven't been able to get the SOPCast stream to work -- I know there are a lot of you -- might just be running a version of VLC where this mysteriously does not work. If so, try uninstall and install 0.8.6 from e.g. http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc/1958/

I'm determined to get this to work, but many hours of trying today hasn't gotten me very far Sad

So looks like the buffer is involved then, and that the settings at present cause problems with the buffer somehow, similar to how the buffer behaves when it encounters some corrupt and/or unsupported files.

However, once the player si rebooted, the buffer is restored to its original state, it can start from scratch again, which means you see it working until the same problem occurs again.

Maybe if the buffer value could be changed, it would work?

RE: How to stream PC desktop audio/video to PCH with VLC?
In an earlier thread http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=15289 there was also discussion on vlc and I largely avoided the buffering problem with a higher bitrate vb=8192 and using mpeg2 vcodec=mp2v With these settings I could stop and re-start the connection too.

Generally it is not the buffer that gets corrupt, the Sigma video libraries get corrupt.

I'll try that.

Any ideas on why I don't get any audio when streaming screen:// ?

The settings are the same as for the streaming where I do get audio so I was surprised there was no sound. Maybe you have to do something special in order to make VLC capture desktop audio?

That's because audio over screen:// isn't supported yet. VLC team have just put placeholders for audio for future implementation. Hopefully soon.

Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn.

Gah!

Is there any other suitable application for streaming audio and video from the desktop into a format that is supported by PCH?

Yes, streaming screen is cool because it doesn't depend on the number of your Sopcast videos played simultaneously.

Use http://127.0.0.1:8902 instead of screen:// and you should have a/v together

I have made it running taking the sopcast stream and transcoding locally to something compliant for the PCH
If you need I will send you exactly this line of code I have used when I will be at home.

PS before Sopcasting have you looked if your favourite TV isn't already broadcasted? http://hdd-player.de/pchweb/FLaSH/FLaSH_..._sdtv.html

Oh, yes, I'm already transcoding SOPCast like you say, that's not what I'm trying to do. I just want the desktop A/V streamed to the PCH regardless of what it's currently showing Smile All of it, applications, mouse...
