Strange HDD noise

Any resolution to this? I tried changing the parameters to 25, noise still occurs (not quite sure if that was meant to fix this noise, or just the parking of the drive)

I'll just second your post. I have the same problem. Noticed that when I connected the hdd to a stationary linux pc with sata (I had to borrow one), it made the same noise. So for me it's not a PCH specific problem. I will try to erase the drive completely, and maybe put one ntfs partition on it to see if it's a ext3/linux problem. My disk is a WD 1.5 Tb green by the way. I'll post my findings back here.

EDIT 2009-09-15: I've found that the noise is independent on OS and that it's there when the drive is idle. I've created an RMA and will see if the replacement drive has the same problem (in which case it would be generic and something I'd have to live with).

EDIT 2009-09-22: I've recieved the replacement drive from WD (by the way they sent me a 2 Tb drive - nice ), and this drive does NOT make those strange noises, i.e. it was a faulty drive. The new drive is very nice and very quiet by the way.
