File Manager for Networked Media Tank v1.1.1 Beta - Released 25th Jan 2010 - CSI
All,
I have developed a small file manager utility which will be helpful to browse the contents of PCH including the / directory.\

This version have the following Features:
1. Almost all operations are similar to Windows Explorer.
2. Filetypes zip, rar, gz & tar can be decompressed/extracted in current folder. Advantage is the extraction/decompression will happen in PCH, so you don't have to switch on your pc like when you connected through NFS/SAMBA.
3. New folders can be created, rename existing files/folders.

Version 1.0.1 Beta Features:
1. Extract rar, tar, zip to the current/seperate folder, decompress gz, bz2, Join hjsplit files .001...,
2. All usb connected drives will be recognized when you give a refresh.
3. All Icons ported from WindowsXP, now the look and feel similar to Windows Explorer.

Version 1.0.2 Beta Features:
1. Little bugs fixed.
2. Copy/Paste implemented and works fine.

Version 1.0.3 Beta Features:
1. now you can unrar files with password. fileman can recognize archives with password and prompts. Even reports if any error in extraction.
2. You can move the files/folders using drag & drop. You can drag and drop items only you have permission, files/folders don't have write access are not possible to drag.
3. You can view the properties of each file and folder, but not fully developed, yet to implement change file permissions.

Version 1.0.4 Beta Features:
1. Cut will be simulated same as windows explorer.
2. Fixed issues with Drag & Drop and other minor issues.
3. You can rename the directories in tree also.
4. You can view the properties of folder (with no. of files & folders) and files and drives (disk usage) too.
5. You can save the file to your local machine (save target as..)
6. You can view any ASCII/image file.
7. You can browse & copy the files from NTFS usb drive. (Need to install a new instance of web server) Please refer the instructions below.
8. Now the tmp files required for fileman will be written under _tmp directory of the application, so you don't need to change permissions of the /tmp directory every time.

Version 1.0.5 Beta Features:
1. Summary Tab has been added in the file properties for media files like .mp3, .mpg, .avi ... etc.
2. You can set the folder type of the current folder (either music/video, default document). You can vew the id3 tags directly in fileman for .mp3 or video properties (dimension) as of now.
3. View SMART details for the HARD Disk using smartctl.
4. Dialog boxes can be closed by pressing Esc key. Confirmation Dialog for Yes or No can be given by pressing y or n
5. UTF-8 encoding enabled, so you can view international filenames.

Version 1.0.6 Beta Features:
1. Now you can view any special char file/directory in fileman including &,",',+ and others. But you cannot rename the directory/file with & character and delete too.
2. You can change file permission of any file/folder.
3. Some bugs fixing...

Version 1.0.7 Beta Features:
1. You can view the progress of move/copy and you can cancel too. (to leave it as a background process, click the X button of the window).

5. Display file size bigger than 4GB and any size.
6. Cut, Copy & Paste will work on any browser.
7. Create 'New Text Document' & 'New NFO Document' by right click.
8. Select All and deselect has been fixed.

Version 1.1.2 Beta Features: (Not Yet Released)
1. Extract password protected rar files - Fixed
2. Fancy additions & bug fixes.

Current Control panel features:
a. set hard drive parameters via hdparm.
b. view/enable SMART via smartmon
c. remove installed programs which was installed via CSI.

2. Point the browser to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9999/FileManager_web/

To browse/read/rwite the NTFS USB drive:
1. Install nmt_ntfs3g using CSI. Thanks to lundman for providing this tool.
2. edit the file ntfs_helper by changing the line 27 like below
options=`echo "${options}" | sed -e 's/nls=/locale=/g' -e 's/ro,/rw,/g'|sed -d 's/uid=1001,gid=1001,//g'`

This looks like a handy tool! Good job.

What are the advantages of this tool compared to doing file & folder operations using an FTP client?

Ftp client, you can't access any root partiton like /usr & others. you can access only /share folder. More over, you can't do file operations like gunzip, unrar... From this tool, you can do the above operations in addition to managing files.

RE: File Manager for Networked Media Tank v 1.0.0 Beta - Released
Sounds good... a bit dangerous to allow noobs access to system files Rolleyes

One request for you and other developers, and maybe excal can try to implement this, is to install this
in /share/Apps/fileman/ so that it will become a standard location for all Apps, as per the Community Software Installer project.

Personally I would rather use Tools/ instead of Apps/ but whatever as long as we can agree on *one* single sub-folder for all user apps.

We don't need to end up with 20 folders inside of /share which are seen when you go to browse HARD_DRIVE.

As well, for the CSI please also try to provide a way to 'uninstall' for the users who no longer want to use it.

Using this browser you can't do anything if you don't have any permission. moreover the httpd is running as nobody so files owned by others can't be modified/deleted unless it has a permission.

RE: File Manager for Networked Media Tank v 1.0.0 Beta - Released
Hi,

First of all, great app!
Does this work with Syvio NMT? I've tried and the browsing works, but not in the dornload catalog. I get the error message: Incorrect XML
and then a second error message:
Error type: DataStructure
Description: XML reffers to not existing parent

Any idea?

--> Updated to the latest firmware and browsing seems to be working fine now.
--> Urar dont seem to work on my SYVIO
