[mkv] whats the normal bitrate for 720p hdtv shows?
Hi, I've downloaded tv series in 720p format and being new to this i am really not sure what quality and stuff to look out for. in the information bar on screen the bitrate that is shows is approximately 3.4-4Mbps, it plays between there. Is that normal or is it low?

the files are ur standard 1.09Gb mkv files using torrent downloads..

Does it look good?

i'd say that's about normal. I think a few of the films i've got that are 720p rips are about the same rate.

Storage Options
C-200, A-110, DAS400, Denon 1909 via HDMI, TXP42X10, KEF Q3 and Q9C surround

It depends on a number of things really. If theres a lot of action typically you'll need a higher bitrate. It also depends on your tv if your even goinn to see any of the artifacts. Be your own judge. Does it look good on your tv?

I have a 32inch lcd. Theres not much of a difference between a 1.5gb 720p rip and a 4g 720p rip. It's noticable, but not justifiable for an additional 2.5gb.

If I had a 60inch plasma I would say differently...

download MediaInfo and you can check the bitrate for each movie on your PC. http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net

i guess u correct. i read somewhere tho that the 720p bitrate is meant to be much higher.. like 25-30mbps. there is a big difference between SD and 720p on my 32" lcd which can do 1080p. i guess this was much ado about nothing. nice to confirm tho.

yes this is correct for uncompressed hi def video but the file you have is compressed most likley with the h.264 codec. Hence you only geting about 4000kbps video bitrate
