2,5' Iomega external HDD & PCH
Hello.
I have the PCH A100, with an external USB drive 2,5' of 320 GO. I've bought today another external USB drive 2,5', of 500 GB, 'Iomega Prestige Portable Hard Drive'. But unpacking it, it appears that there are 2 USB plugs on the side of the wire to be connected to a computer / PCH, to be used in case not enough power would be delivered by one plug, according to the documentation ... I wonder if the PCH will be powerfull enough to use only one USB plug for the HDD (the other being already used by my other HDD). Thanks |

RE: 2,5' Iomega external HDD & PCH
Most likely not and you will need a USB Y-splitter with both USB sockets on the PCH used to power it. Even then there's no guarantees, try to stick with externally powered HDD's.

RE: 2,5' Iomega external HDD & PCH
i am using a 400gb seagate 2.5 portable drive, while yes one plug usb does work, it is unstable. Even with the 2 plug usb, if it experiences a heavy load ie Transferring files from usb to internal or back again, i have many times had my usb drive lock up. But my drive also has an external power source option, which works great. So while all options work, Chris is correct with saying using an external power source as the best option.
This item looks promising though USB Power Boost. (04-01-2009 12:51 PM)fullgarage Wrote: Hello. |
