best software to re-encode mkv (have read the wiki)??
hiSmile

i have a mkv of the godfather, after some searching on here it appears that its been encoded wrong in the first place.

so i've read the wiki on troubleshooting mkv's here, great guide explains everything very well. only prob is it recommends and links to software for changing to .ts, but just talks about .mkv with no recommendation or links?

with this being a lengthy process i'd like to try and get it right first time if possconfused

can anyone recommend software for re-encoding a mkv please?

RE: best software to re-encode mkv (have read the wiki)??
ripbot is propably the easiest one.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127611

Simply open the software,
select add,
select the file to reencode,
select to save as mkv,
select the Bluray profile for video and the x.copy.stream for audio

for encoding theres either a CQ (constant quality) mode (lower number = higher quality and bigger filesize) or a 2-pass mode. To control the file size select the 2-pass mode, then an extra field gets available where you select and lock desired filesize. Select filesize that matches that of the original you have.

Start encoding before going to sleep cause its going to take some hours

Living room: C200/A200/A100 HDMI to Pioneer KURO KRP-500A plasma / Denon AVR 3808 / KEF 5005.2 / B&W DM685
Kids room: C200/A110 HDMI to Panasonic 42PZ85, Optical to Logitech Z5500.

PLEASE READ THE WIKI

Or meGUI and choose one of the DXVA profiles, SD for your DVD to x264 encodes and HD for your BD encoding.

autoMKV has a PCH profile IIRC.
