DVD Folder Structure/VIDEO_TS and multi-disc sets
Hi all -
I'm trying to get a consistent (and fully complete) answer for how to best manage multidisc boxsets, individual movies, and TV Series. I want to make it clear that I'm not looking rename VOB's, merge them, or go through any other unnatural means to alter a straight DVD rip to folder structure. I want to make sure that I have the right naming conventions set up for them to appear properly in PCH. I'm happy to collate all responses and pass the info along to the proper person to update the wiki. Let's start with the simplest cases to the most complex: A single movie with 2 or more discs for the movie itself, i.e. Lawrence of Arabia. How should one set up the folder structure? This is how I have been typically ripping them. c:\movies\Lawrence of Arabia c:\movies\Lawrence of Arabia\Disc 1 c:\movies\Lawrence of Arabia\Disc 1\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Lawrence of Arabia\Disc 2 c:\movies\Lawrence of Arabia\Disc 2\VIDEO_TS Nex Case - A DVD Box Set. This is how I have done it so far: c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 1 - Scream c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 1 - Scream\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 2 - Scream 2 c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 2 - Scream 2\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 3 - Scream 3 c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 3 - Scream 3\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 4 - Scream Bonus Disc c:\movies\The Scream Trilogy\Disc 4 - Scream Bonus Disc\VIDEO_TS A DVD Box Set with multidisc movies, like extended LOTR or the Godfather: C\movies\The Godfather Collection C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 1 - The Godfather C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 1 - The Godfather\VIDEO_TS C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 2 - The Godfather Part 2, (Disc 1) C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 2 - The Godfather Part 2, (Disc 1)\VIDEO_TS C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 3 - The Godfather Part 2, (Disc 2) C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 3 - The Godfather Part 2, (Disc 2)\VIDEO_TS C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 4 - The Godfather Part 3 C\movies\The Godfather Collection\Disc 4 - The Godfather Part 3\VIDEO_TS Finally, a TV Series with multiple Seasons: c:\movies\Alias c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\ c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 1 c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 1\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 2 c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 2\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 3 c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 3\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 4 c:\movies\Alias\Season 1\Disc 4\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\ c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 1 c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 1\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 2 c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 2\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 3 c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 3\VIDEO_TS c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 4 c:\movies\Alias\Season 2\Disc 4\VIDEO_TS I appreciate everyone's patience to a newb, and I hope to have a clear set of examples after this discussion so that we can share with the rest of the community. |

in short, add CDx, DISCx, DISKx or PARTx after each part of the video file. for tv shows put SxxExxExxExx...

Thanks for the info - looks like I'm partly there already but have the extra space. So the Disc1, Disc2, etc has to come after the film name? What about with Box sets for movies with different names that won't sort properly, i.e. indiana jones? If we use the Disc1 to PRECEDE the film name will YAMJ ignore it? (04-18-2009 09:02 AM)garp99 Wrote: Asked and answered: YAMJ Wiki Garp - Thanks for your response, but I disagree. It's only partially answered in the the wiki. You make the assumption that I failed to read the wiki, but, in fact I did read the wiki. I read all of those sections and still have questions. Most of the instructions are geared towards managing single-file movies, not a complete DVD rip. When you have well over 800 movies already ripped, in VIDEO_TS, many of those instructions really don't come in to play. Renaming a few movies is one thing, but not for an entire collection. That's why I am asking clarifying questions and perhaps, when we have a complete set of examples, we can post it to the wiki for others to benefit from it as well. Judging from the sheer number of questions about paths and oftentimes about naming, I'd say that the wiki probably isn't meeting all of their needs, either. Thanks for the recommendations and suggestions however! |

But if you want to override the default order, the Wiki tells you how to do that. Also, the "disc1" stuff and the "set" stuff are completely separate -- one does not affect the other (so you can have a multi-disc movie appear inside a boxedset, just like any other movie). |

I'll take all of this discussion and the examples and pull them together for posting on the wiki when we're finished. |

RE: DVD Folder Structure/VIDEO_TS and multi-disc sets
I'd say they probably are, the wiki uses them in its examples.
I guess there are no examples of VIDEO_TS files in the wiki but the same rules apply, use the example given in the wiki for the folder name that the VIDEO_TS resides in. |

RE: DVD Folder Structure/VIDEO_TS and multi-disc sets
deh2k7,
Were you able to figure this out? I'm doing something similar but with Babylon 5. To test, I ripped the first three (of 6) DVDs two ways, one into Video_ts and the other into ISO files. For the VIDEO_TS, i have a folder named: BABYLON 5 [DISK1][SET SEASON 1] BABYLON 5 [DISK2][SET SEASON 1] BABYLON 5 [DISK3][SET SEASON 1] For the ISO files each are named BABYLON 5 [DISK1][SET SEASON 1].iso BABYLON 5 [DISK2][SET SEASON 1].iso BABYLON 5 [DISK3][SET SEASON 1].iso First off when I run My_YAMJ, I get the following error but it continues on. ERROR: TheTVDB API -> ht tp://thetvdb.com/api/2805AD2873519EC5/series/70726/default/-1/1/ (i put the sapce in HTTP so it wouldn't turn it into a link so you can ignore it) Once it's done and I click on Index.htm, i get one thumb and they have Part01, part02, part03 listed under it. They all seem to be pointing to the ISOs. Here is a screenshot. http://home.netcom.com/~wilsonv/screenshots/ (One weird bug, if i move the ISOs out and rerun my_yamj, now i get the an index.htm that has the three parts listed under the thumb but now pointing to the video_ts folder. Looks like it can't figure out what to do with two of the same shows.) If you find out how to fix this please post your solution. thanks Edit: By the way, if i have two seasons. BABYLON 5 [DISK1][SET SEASON 1].iso BABYLON 5 [DISK2][SET SEASON 1].iso BABYLON 5 [DISK3][SET SEASON 1].iso BABYLON 5 [DISK1][SET SEASON 2].iso BABYLON 5 [DISK2][SET SEASON 2].iso BABYLON 5 [DISK3][SET SEASON 2].iso It only shows the three disks in season 2 in the index.htm. |

I can see using SET to group movies that belong together, but DISCX seems to work better for actual movies within a real boxset.... Still confused, but making progress... This also seems to work: BABYLON 5 SEASON 1 [DISC1] - Episodes 1-4 BABYLON 5 SEASON 1 [DISC2] - Episodes 5-8 BABYLON 5 SEASON 1 [DISC3] - Episodes 9-12 Still trying to understand when/why to use SET vs DISC and when you would use both.... |

(04-19-2009 07:15 AM)deh2k7 Wrote: Why not try this for your VIDEO_TS: Thanks. The first one you listed gives me the same result as the screenshot I posted above. No season info. The second version thinks it's called babylon 5 the river of souls and lists all the disks under one episode. Is the Episodes 1-4 in the folder name supposed to produce any results? I got really close with he ISO files. I name them: BABYLON.5.S01E01E02E03E04.[DISK1].iso and it actully showed Season 1 but then each of the disks next to the play button has only one and half episode names. Seems like there is a limit on the text next. |

SETS were more for movies, however they are used for the purpose of creating a sub-index of related movies. A "movie" includes a TV season. So TV seasons are automatically put into a SET based on season, provided you set the options mjb.singleSeriesPage=true mjb.sets.minSetCount=2 mjb.sets.requireAll=true A DISC (or DISK or CD) is used to show multi-parts or multi-episodes on a single details page (not index page). |
