faster data transfer over the network
Hi Guys:

I just got my A110 so I'm a newb so don't be to harsh on me. I want to store my media files on the harddrive I installed to my a110. I know the fastest is to USB slave but is there any faster way to transfer the files over a network? 9GB is taking like an hour to transfer.

I know it's not going to be blazing fast over 10/100 or even wireless but I just wanted to know what tweaks I could do to improve performance for transferring files and streaming.

Right now I am connected by wire on a Vista latop through a linksys router. I am transferring the files through mapping a drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Also what services can I shut down on the Popcorn Hour? I assume it is using myIHome by default for streaming so can I turn allot of those other services off? Remember that I still want to be able to use the drive as a mapped NAS drive. Download speed is about 2.77MB/second.

RE: faster data transfer over the network
Turn off everything you don't need.

You sound like you are using mapped shares so need the SMB server. Also use FTP as it is quicker than SMB I get 7.1MB/s for FTP, that''s nearly 3 times quicker than your SMB rate. Mind you im getting about 4MB/s on SMB so perhaps your network settings or laptop are slowing things a little.

If you dont need torrent turn off that apps, same for casgle turn it off, usenet again off if you dont download via newsgroups to the HDD. myihomelite server is used by some user apps so if you have any that need it leave it on otherwise turn it off unless you have a second NMT.
Turn off NFS server aswell Big Grin

I am:
- trying out torrenting from my NMT (torrnet)
- map share to organize my folders (SMB??)
- I stream some things for testing (?????)
- Using FTP to upload files to the NMT (I am getting between 6-7+MB/sec this way)
So I will turn all the other apps off but I am not sure as to what my NMT is using for streaming from my laptop?

Probably upnp server, dont worry you can turn then back on if you need to. Some user apps require the myihome server but you havent mentioned them yet.

Mapped shares in Windows is SMB.
