Wyplayer
Hello everybody, this is my first post here! Smile

I am very interested in buying a NMT in the next few weeks and have been looking for the most appealing device. So far, the Popcorn hour A-110 is on the top of my list. However, there seems to be a new, serious contender: The Wyplayer.

So far it has earned excellent reviews from french websites (Wyplay, the builder of the Wyplayer, is a french company) and offers unique functionalities. I gathered some pro's and con's about that NMT:

Pro's:
  • HD-TV digital tuner and recorder
  • User-friendly and responsive interface
  • Integrated Wifi-N
  • Polished webservices: youtube, rss, podcast/blog, weather, movie trailers, ...
  • Wyplay's commitment to regularly provide new firmwares
Con's:
  • No DTS downmix
  • Doesn't support SAMBA (yet?)
  • Can't play MPEG-4 AVC HD videos
  • Can't play DVD rips (VIDEO_TS structure) or Blu-ray rips
  • Expensive (€314 without hard drive)
  • Room for power management optimization
You can find the specs and more information on Wyplayer's official website.
What do you think about this NMT compared to an A-110? Would an HD-TV tuner be a valuable new feature for the next PCH's model?

I'm surprised I haven't heard you guys talk about it yet on this forum! Wink

RE: Wyplayer
Additional Cons:
No HDMI HD Audio codecs
Old chipset?
HDMI 1.2

You won't get many interested with AVR's due to HDMIv1.2 and no HDMI audio out. DTS downmix is not available so you wont get many that require DTS audio. Seems like both ends of the market are missed.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407
