16 port managed 10/100 switch vs Router
Would i be better off putting the switch in vs the router or am i just wasting money?

We would need to have more information to be able to help.
Do you currently have a router on your network? How many computers are on the network? Does your router have a built in switch? |

sorry about that the router is a WPN824v2 not sure if it has a switch it does have 4 ports. there are 2 pc's directly connected a 4 port switch an apple airport on the other end of the house, a PS3, 2 WII's wireless, 1 Xbox 360, 2- HR21-700 (directv recorders), and 4 wireless laptops 2 locally and 2 connected to the apple airport

You will get the best performance if the PCH is connected to the same switch as the computer. The four ports on your router are a 10/100 switch.
It sounds like you are using the Airport as a wireless bridge to create a wired network away from your broadband modem/main router. Is this where the side of the network where the PCH will be located? If so, is that also where the computer will be that you will use to put files on the Popcorn Hour? |

no the airport is on actually next door at my fathers house were it is connected to a switch there is a PC, an xbox 360 and 2 wireless laptops

I am having a hard time visualizing your network, but if you attach the PCH to the same switch/router as the computer your are wanting to stream/transfer from you don't need a new switch.
