Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

Alright, well I have been trying to connect the A110 to my PC directly with a crossover cable. I have read now just about every thread on how to do this, and have tried every suggestion. I have never been able to ping my PopcornHour.

I am getting back to basics and wondering if by some huge coincidence that as soon as I disconnect my XBOX360 which functioned perfectly with the same NIC card and crossover cable and then connected to my Popcorn Hour, that something happened to the card or the cable.

My question is this...

Both the PopCorn Hour and the NIC card have lights that DO NOT light up. Will they light up only when they do establish a connection with the correct IP settings which allow for communication? Or should I at least see some kind of activity from the lights even if they are just physically plugged in on both ends but not necessarily communicating?
