RE: Could the new PCH be running Android?
Even though i like the idea of Android for mobile phones, what is it that would make it so great on a media player for the television? confused

My setup: Popcorn Hour A-110 - Panasonic TH-37PX70 - Samsung BD-P2500 - Yamaha RX-V550

RE: Could the new PCH be running Android?
It's a very good open platform for developers. There are hundreds of Android applications available which could conceivably be run on the PCH as well as from an Android phone.

The platform would become really open. Support for Javascript, etc
could really make UI dynamic, it's for similar reasons (and more) that
even STB makers are flocking to the Android pool.

RE: Could the new PCH be running Android?
If it were to surface in a new PCH, it would be a PCH released at least 2 years from now. Sigma is notoriously late on things and the Android announcement is tied to the related announcement of a new generation SoC at the same show. Presumably the one people have been long waiting for with the new PowerVR SGX graphics core and a new Gennum VXP processor both integrated on-chip. Nothing would be back-ported.

If the new PCH still uses Sigma chips, it will be 8643/8645/or 8655 based.
