Popcorn Hour and Windows 7
Hey guys, I just recently installed Windows 7 on my computer, coming from Windows XP. When I click on Network, it actually shows my PopCorn Hour, and when I right click on it it says something like 'enable streaming to this device'. Does anyone know what I would be able to do with this? I'm currently using MyiHome and it works great, but I'm wondering what this 'stream to device' feature would allow for, or if it would even work.

Thanks!

Wow, coming from XP to 7 is quite a jump.

It is just the feature that uses the DLNA protocol. It allows you to use the "play to" feature to stream media from your computer to your DLNA compatible device using the UPNP:AV server.

Now for the bad part, UPNP is not the best out there because it does not support MKV containers and H264 video im not too sure about MP4 since it was just integrated in Windows 7. So chances are if Windows Media Player 12 cannot play it without you installing any third party codecs then you will not be able to stream it.

Thank you Specter I appreciate the clarification.

Yeah, I'm not a Vista hater or anything, I just didn't feel the need to reformat at the time, and after hearing all the hype about Win 7 I decided to try it out and I love it.

Peace.

I just wanted to chime in by saying Windows 7 is awesome!!! I've been a loyal XP user since it first came out. I tried Vista for a couple months and couldn't stand it. But 7 is sooo good. 7 is to Vista what XP was to ME.

Actually 7 is not to Vista as XP was to ME. Its more like 7 is to Vista an XP was to 2000.

All Microsoft did was was change the GUI and make it use less resources. Its still running on Vistas core program. Same thing that the did with 2000, they just slapped on a new GUI, changes a few things around and released it as XP.

RE: Popcorn Hour and Windows 7
I've found the current version of MyiHome doesn't work well on Win7 so I went back with WinXP for my streaming server.

It works fine on my install, if your running x64 you might have to install both x32 and x64 java also install the x64 version of myihome.
