RE: [A-100] Firmware 01-17-090204-15-POP-402-000 (12.06.2009)
I haven't had a drink in two and a half months. Didn't really miss it that much either. I must be getting very old.

Guys, this firmware is 3 months old and still has significant bugs....
I hope you're releasing a new one soon.... |

I'm releasing one right now. But it just plays the Legend of Zelda theme over and over.

haha.. no HDD for my A-110, so can't do themes. Would be kinda cool to see all your movie ratings in number of hearts, though. ;-)

Yeah! I mean the last 2 firmwares were sooooo rich in new features and fixes! The last one could even be a milestone!!!

Don't you guys ever get tired of complaining about firmware? Everyone here knows they aren't perfect. Syabas knows they aren't perfect. We agree and sympathize. I wish they would keep the number of changes smaller and release them more often, but hey it's not my company.
Bitching does absolutely zero good though. Can we call a truce on crappy firmware now? Please? |

RE: [A-100] Firmware 01-17-090204-15-POP-402-000 (12.06.2009)
my mate has a WD media player, it supports 16x forwarding on mkv, it is using the sam chipset as the A100. I bought A100 last year, 1 year later no more firmware support. idx/sub is still missing.. stop/resume on .ISO FILES still not supported.
I wonder when will be features be available.. |

RE: [A-100] Firmware 01-17-090204-15-POP-402-000 (12.06.2009)
The WDTV came out later than the A100, nearly a year and is based on a later set of Sigma libs. Syabas tried to implement these libs into the A100 firmware and it did not go well meaning that the amount of work involved coding for the newer libs is a massive task on its own.
Good news and the reason why Syabas are always near or the leader in releasing players with Sigma chipsets is that they do have the coding abilities. Sub/idx is in beta stages but we need improvments for it to be usable. I would say that they will definately come but unfortunately there was a beta firmware for the A100 ready for release but it has failed QC. When the C200 was launched the plan was to split engineering resources between the two platforms, that assumed that the C200 would launch with a stable firmware which it has obviously not. As soon as it has a stable then the A100/110 will get the resources required. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

So how about setting up release date for the new FW? Honestly as the cutomers we do not really care about your internal resource shortage. You sold us the product and you must support it in order to make it to be 100% compliant to the defined specs (w/o bugs). If you feel that you will be able to support C200 only from now on since it can only be the product that gives users bugs free features may be you need to think about programm of swapping exisitng faulty hardware that does not work and does not have support to the new one so users will eventually get product that was purchased based on your great reclama but not half brick. |

It seems you are addressing Chris for resources. He does not work for Syabas (nor do I). We are NMT owners like you. Chris gave you the explanation of the situation as we've been told. The "story" will not change just because you don't give benefit over doubt - but that's your choice. I do agree the latest firmware cycle has been really (and yes, really too) long, but I don't agree that my A100 is a "half brick". It still plays my media quite fine. Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn. Wiki. Wiki? Wiki! |

Do try to keep that in mind. What exactly is it about your A-100 or A-110 that you think is so terrible as to make it half a brick? I just watched a VIDEO_TS folder streamed over SMB on my A-100, it worked just fine, just as almost everything does. The lack of faster fast forward in MKV, sub/idx and bookmarks in ISO are hardly showstoppers, and neither of these features are in the A-100 specifications. All added value, in other words. So, does WDTV already has idx/sub support because of new Sigma libs? Besides 16X FF, what other firmware features does it has that A100 doesn't has?
