Watch DVD from a shared DVD drive over the network
How to watch a DVD movie from a DVD drive shared over the network on PCH? Is this ever possible?

I DO not want to convert it to whatever, I DO not want to copy it to PCH's HDD and play it from there, I DO not want to play it from an external DVD connected to PCH through USB, and I DO not want to play separate .VOB files.

I just want to put a DVD in my laptop's DVD drive and watch it on MNT as if I were doing it using a "regular" DVD player.

I am surprised, but looks like nobody still did it.

Download and install AnyDVD, it will 'decrypt' the dvd on the fly as you're playing it from your NMT.

Decrypting is not an issue.

Playing IS an issue.

Well, playing it is not an issue Smile
Just share the drive on your pc and browse to it on your pch (or add it as a media source).
However, the pch cannot decrypt dvd's (even attaching an external dvd player trough usb will result in being unable to play original dvd's).
AnyDVD removes that encryption on the fly so the pch will receive an unencrypted dvd when it tries to play it over the network.

Just did it - still not able to play the "whole" DVD - any hints?

Did you install anydvd on the pc with the shared dvd drive?
And also, what is 'not able to play the whole dvd'?
Do you get a black screen? don't see any menu but just the main movie?
Some more info would be appreciated Smile

yes I did

But I still see the list of .VOB files which I can play separately - but that's not what I need.

how to get a "traditional" DVD menu like on a "normal" DVD player and play it from there?

RE: Watch DVD from a shared DVD drive over the network
That's odd, opening the shared dvd drive in video mode (the first icon on the left after your selected that shared folder) should result in playing the dvd automaticly.
Just like opening an iso or a folder with a video_ts folder in it.
Maybe someone else can help on this one as my unit is in need of recovery firmware atm so i can't test anything.

RE: Watch DVD from a shared DVD drive over the network
Install MyiHome server on your NMT, and the software on your Laptop/PC.
On your PC, open a share network for your DVD/CD drive.
Open MyiHome on your PC, in the reference, in video, add a new watched folder, choose the DVD drive and add it in.
On your NMT, use MyIhome, you will be able to see the content of your dvd and watch it from there.
Best luck.
Cheers,
