Known Q&A

How can I purchase a series 200 PCH?
You can now order at http://www.popcornhour.com. Shipping has begun, shipping dates can be found for the C-200, and A-200.
The standard package includes the NMT (Networked Media Tank), an HDMI cable, remote control, quick start guide and installation software. There are further accessories that are NMT specific, ie the MN-200 and WN-150 do not work with all NMT's.

What is the difference between the A-110, the A-200 and the C-200?
Please see here for a comparison table.

What HDD/rom drive/hardware should I use with my 200-series?
The wiki is a great source of information, for the user built A-200 compatibility list see here, and for the C-200 see here. If you do purchase hardware which is not on the list, and you find it works/doesn't work, please take the time to help the community and add the device to the relevant list.

What are the remote commands?
The wiki has an extensive list of remote functions and commands, this means that functions such as 'power' then 'delete' (shutdown), can be programmed into your harmony or universal remote if desired.

Does the 200 series mean the end of firmware releases for the A100?
No the release does not affect firmware releases for the A100. Firmware can be found in the links in the grey bar at the top of every page.

Does the 200 series support the use of the harmony/universal remotes?
To use IR with the C-200 you will need an additional IR receiver sold as an add on, which comes as an IR eye and IR remote, the standard unit out of the box only supports the PCH RF remote that is paired with the device on setup. Upon connecting the IR receiver the RF function is disabled. It is unknown if it is possible for universal RF remotes to control the device.
The A-200/A-210 comes with and supports IR remotes not RF.

Does the unit support retail Bluray?
The C-200 will play retail Blu-ray discs with the addition of a SATA BD-rom. This can only be done through HDMI or component, playback is not officially supported through composite.
The A-200/210 will not officially play commercial discs, or full menu structure discs with or without protection.

Do the units have a fan?
There is no fan in the C-200 as it is not required (60mm can be added by user if wanted; one CPU_FAN and one BACK_FAN). The A-210 also does not have a fan as it has a heatsink/metal case.
The A-200 contains a fan.

Can I install more RAM?
The on-board DDR2 RAM is not upgradable, there is no need for more RAM than the device is supplied with.

Will the 200 series support my HD files with High@L5.1?
No it cannot claim support for AVC High@L5.1 level as that spec reaches >300mb/s. It will play some HP@L5.1 files.

Can I power up the 200 series by remote?
Unlike the A-110/100, the 200 series supports full power up/down by remote, RF and IR.

Does the 200 series have a USB slave port?
C-200; No. But it has USB hosts. See specifications
A-200/210; Yes, 1 slave 2 host See specifications

Does the C-200 have a web browser?
No, although this does not mean that it does not have the capabilities to have one in the future.

Will it play PGS subtitles on BD discs?
Yes, pgs subtitles will work when in BD iso or folder. It is unknown if they will work for ts/m2ts encodes.

Does it decode DTS over hdmi?
Yes.

Can it extract the DTS-HD or true HD core for use with a non HD receiver?
Yes it can. If you have a file with HD audio the C-200 can extract the audio core and utilise it for non HD audio playback.

Does the 200 series have WiFi built-in?
No it does not as not everyone wants/needs it, so if you do have a need then you will need a MN-200 wireless mini-pci card for the C-200 or WN-150]wireless adapter for the A-200.

What is the Antenna on the back of the C-200 for then?
It is for the RF remote control. When inserting a mini-pci card you usually get the associated antennas.
There are mounting holes for 3 antennas on the back of the C-200 case.

Will WiFi be as slow as the A110?
No. The A110 is USB not mini-Pci, we hope for at least double the speed.

What Motherboard form factor is used inside the C-200?
It is Mini-ITX, so user have the option to remove the mainboard and put it into there own case.

Because it is Mini-ITX does that mean that it has an Standard ATX Connector?
Yes, it uses an standard ATX Connector, so you could take any Standard ATX Power Supply if you want.

What is the internal USB connector in the C-200?
It is a standard USB slot intended for use when using a BD ROM and no internal HDD. BD Live requires 2GB of memory, and this internal USB has been provided to give the user more options to provide that memory without the need for a HDD.
Quote:1.) Format an USB Stick with 2GB or more to fat32 or ext3
2.) create directories "bdj/ada/" and "bdj/buda" (case sensitive) on the Stick
3.) plug in the USB devices and will be automatically mounted as PERSISTFS
4.) Now you can playback BD's with BD-J and BD Live

Does this mean I can use the internal USB for memory for apps instead of buying a HDD?
Yes

Can I use a CF card and adapter instead of a HDD?
several cards that worked in the A series have now been tested and shown to not currently work. There are some reported cases of working CF cards however results do not seem to be consistent.

Can I browse photo's/music whilst listening to music?
Yes, as you can see in the multitasking video the 200 series is quiet capable of this task.

What network speed can I expect?
For file transfer over a 10/100Mbit Network by FTP, 12MB/sec is proven for up/download. Over Samba you can currently expect 12MB/sec upload to the C-200 but download from the C-200 is currently only operating at 6MB/sec.
This may be improved with FW updates before/after release. Gigabit speeds will obviously be faster but currently no values have been given.

Can the 200 series handle multiple network mounts?
No, currently there are no plans to implement this feature.

Does timeseek work on vbr mp3 files?
yes.

C-200 (BD Rom) and drive bay specific Questions

Will the unit play BD backups/BD ISO with menus etc?
Yes the C-200 will. Rips must be made with software such as anyDVD HD or DVDfab.

Will retail DVD's play?
Yes they will on the C-200. However officially they will only play over HDMI or component, not via composite.

Can I attach an HD-DVD and BD-ROM combo drive and play retail HD-DVD's?
HD-DVD will not be supported as the chipset from Sigma doesn't support HD-DVD, but BD is fully supported.

Will retail audio CD's play?
Yes they will if you have a blu ray or DVD drive connected via SATA connection.

Is there room for both 2.5" HDD and 3.5" drive (optical or hdd)?
Yes. It has two SATA ports.
1) The external one can hold either a 3.5" drive in the tray, or the tray is removed for a blu-ray drive.
2) The internal port can hold a 2.5" laptop drive.
3) see also C-200 modding for finding alternate fitments

RE: C-200 FAQ (update 16.09.09)
Can you add something about how (currently) the c-200 does not support Gigabit Networks? ... I'd like to have a centralized place to look at so I can know when that problem is fixed (not the temp fix, the real one.)

Power down on a200
Is it possible to turn off the a200 with a single press of a button?

I have a harmony remote and I understand that with the original remote, you need to hold it down for 4 seconds to power down.

RE: 200 Series FAQ
There should also be a shutdown command with power then the delete button, you can program this into the harmony remotes, infact, it may already be in the database i'm not sure...

Also reset is power then eject.

RE: 200 Series FAQ
beefy314, I had the same problem. But I solved it by setting the "rec" button as an on/off button and when I shut down my PCH I just press it for 4 seconds.
