Problems with FTP on PCH. Disconnected, tempfiles, unable to resume due to file size.
Hi!

I'm using a POPCORN HOUR A-110 with an internal hdd and I've got FTP running in NMT Apps.

I'm also running a wireless network through a POPCORN HOUR WN-100 and a NETGEAR WNR2000 WIRELESS N ROUTER.

I wont complain about the speeds I get, it's been done to death already.

I've got other issues however:

1. When uploading to PCH through FTP I keep getting disconnected, resulting in tempfiles named .pureftp.upload.XXXXXXXXXX or something like that. Very often the transfer gets disconnected when it has reached 98-99% of completion. Very annoying!

Since PCH renames the files to mentioned .pureftp.upload.XXXXXXXXXX my FTP client, Flash FXP, can't resume automatically but instead starts a new send, resulting in a couple of tempfiles. I can however manually rename one of the tempfiles, usually the biggest one, to xxx.mkv and resume without any problems.

Why is this and what can I do to prevent this from happening?

2. My other issue is when downloading from the PCH through FTP. I get disconnected when doing this as well.

When using Flash FXP I can resume, or at least it appears that way, but the transfer never stops, I've cancelled them manually after they've reached a GB or so in size above the original file.

I read in this forum that FileZilla is a popular client so I figured I'd test it. I again got disconnected during transfer, but this time I couldn't resume due to: Server does not support resume of files > 4 GB.

What's this all about and why do I only have this problem when downloading and not when uploading?

I also feel I should mention that I've been copying files from PCH to PC through the same wireless network, but using SMB, for 24h+ straight now...without any disconnections at all, I assume the copying process would abort if connection was lost.

Why is SMB so much more stable than FTP?

Does this mean the problem lies in the FTP application?

Thankful for useful answers Smile

I have had the same issue as your #1, above, and haven't read anything yet on what causes it and how to rectify it. It is a bit of a pain when you want to leave the FTP to PCH connection running overnight to load up an internal drive. I too use FlashFXP most of the time, but also found that Filezilla produced the same results as yours.

I had similar problems with FTP. I connect via SMB and use a file copy alternative (Unstoppable Copy) to get files onto my PCH via SMB. Unstoppable Copy gives me much more feedback in regards to throughput and bytes transferred than the standard Windows copy box.

Most of the time, however, I don't use my network to get files onto the PCH. I use two of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817153071

One connected to my PCH, and another connected to my PC. When I have more than 5GB of files to transfer over, I just pull the physical EXT3 formatted hard drive from one docking station and drop it in the other, and copy them via eSATA.
