I've attached teh MediaInfo output for Knowing here General Complete name : P:\Movies\Knowing (2009) - 15\knowing1080p-e.mkv Format : Matroska File size : 10.9 GiB Duration : 2h 1mn Overall bit rate : 12.9 Mbps Encoded date : UTC 2009-06-20 19:53:04 Writing application : mkvmerge v2.8.0 ('The Tree') built on May 9 2009 18:02:06 Writing library : libebml v0.7.7 + libmatroska v0.8.1 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L4.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames Muxing mode : Container profile=Unknown@4.1 Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 2h 1mn Bit rate : 11.1 Mbps Nominal bit rate : 11.4 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 816 pixels Display aspect ratio : 2.35 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.296 Stream size : 9.43 GiB (86%) Writing library : x264 core 67 r1165 6841c5e Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=7 / psy_rd=1.0:0.0 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=12 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / mbaff=0 / bframes=3 / b_pyramid=1 / b_adapt=1 / b_bias=0 / direct=1 / wpredb=1 / keyint=250 / keyint_min=25 / scenecut=40 / rc=2pass / bitrate=11375 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30 / aq=1:1.00 Language : English Audio ID : 2 Format : DTS Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems Codec ID : A_DTS Duration : 2h 1mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 510 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 24 bits Stream size : 1.28 GiB (12%) And Monsters Inc is here: General Complete name : P:\Movies\Monsters Inc (2001) - U\Monsters.Inc.2001.1080p.BluRay.DTS-ES.x264-DON.mkv Format : Matroska File size : 7.19 GiB Duration : 1h 32mn Overall bit rate : 11.2 Mbps Encoded date : UTC 2009-06-08 12:05:35 Writing application : mkvmerge v2.8.0 ('The Tree') built on May 9 2009 18:02:06 Writing library : libebml v0.7.7 + libmatroska v0.8.1 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L5.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 10 frames Muxing mode : Container profile=Unknown@5.1 Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 1h 32mn Bit rate : 9 231 Kbps Nominal bit rate : 9 450 Kbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 038 pixels Display aspect ratio : 1.850 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.193 Stream size : 5.94 GiB (83%) Writing library : x264 core 67 r1163M 3f56e27 Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=10 / deblock=1:-3:-3 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=9 / psy_rd=0.9:0.0 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=64 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=2 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=6 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / mbaff=0 / bframes=4 / b_pyramid=1 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 / direct=3 / wpredb=1 / keyint=250 / keyint_min=25 / scenecut=40 / rc=2pass / bitrate=9450 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30 / aq=1:0.80 Language : English Audio #1 ID : 2 Format : DTS Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems Format profile : ES Codec ID : A_DTS Duration : 1h 32mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 510 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 24 bits Stream size : 996 MiB (14%) Title : Main Audio Language : English Audio #2 ID : 3 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Codec ID : A_AC3 Duration : 1h 32mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 192 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Stream size : 127 MiB (2%) Title : Commentary Track Language : English Text #1 ID : 4 Format : ASS Codec ID : S_TEXT/ASS Codec ID/Info : Advanced Sub Station Alpha Language : English Text #2 ID : 5 Format : ASS Codec ID : S_TEXT/ASS Codec ID/Info : Advanced Sub Station Alpha Language : French Text #3 ID : 6 Format : ASS Codec ID : S_TEXT/ASS Codec ID/Info : Advanced Sub Station Alpha Language : Spanish Text #4 ID : 7 Format : ASS Codec ID : S_TEXT/ASS Codec ID/Info : Advanced Sub Station Alpha Language : Swedish What is it thati should be looking for here? RE: .mkv not playing
Thats because both of your files are out of spec, the PCH cannot play 1080p files with profile @5.1
and with more than 4 reference frames. Stick with 720p files your success will be higher. you can try remuxing Knowing with mkv merge but YMMV. PCH A-200 16GB USB -> HDMI -> Samsung LN46A650 | A200 -> Toslink -> Logitech Z-5500 (Harmony 700) PCH C-200 8GB USB -> HDMI -> Sharp LC46D64U (Harmony 550) Eversion/Whisper skin (custom MOD) + WHS V1 (15TB Q6600/4GB RAM ) -> Mediasonic HR82-SU3S2 (Backup) D-Link DNS 323 for sale |

RE: .mkv not playing
A110 can deal 1080p files fine.
Your Monsters Inc rip is way out of the specs (BluRay standard specs are High@L4.1 and 4 ReFrames). I think that remuxing it with MkvToolnix program won't help but you can try to mux it to .ts format with TsMuxer. Have you rebooted your PopcornHour? Sometimes 1080p files refuse to play but when you reboot your machine files will play. ps. I have that same Knowing rip that you got and it plays fine. |

I'll try and remux Monsters Inc a .ts file with tsMuxeR as you've suggested. I'd really like to get that one working. Is it quite straight forwarded? Thanks again dude toastie |

Except a few exceptions. So if you're gonna download rip with those specs download Sample first. If there's no sample available I suggest to find an another rip. |

The limitations are listed on the purchase page.

RE: .mkv not playing
Bear in mind also that retail BD discs are HP@L4 so why when encoding some decide to up the profile and number of reference frames is just down to lack of knowledge as you cannot get any quality gain over the original source.
You tend to find nowadays that there is a working version so look for sample files like HTP says it will save you Gb's of downloading. Also look out for DXVA tags as they should play fine. The PS3 cannot play these files either only HTPC's with software decoders rather than hardware players like PS3, NMT, etc. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |
