RE: NAS without RAID; jbod/standard/combined
I can't navigate to the HDD's from the sources menu.
I can however navigate the drives with the PCH GUI if I use the calm index to allow me to link to the drives. It just seems to be a problem with the GUI actually entering the drives/filter screen for the drives. The link I have in calm applies a filter for video files and takes me into the drives. It's all very weird. There is a weak link in the chain, as suc,h that seems to occur where the PCH should provide the choose your filter screen for these drives. Everything else works fine... This actually looks like a bug... |

Maybe you should get Willem53 in here to compare notes. He has a bunch of USB drives tied onto his NMT. Maybe there is some commonality?
I've only had USB connected up to mine a couple of times. Mostly trying things for other people. I network stream everything. Yes, it does seem to be some sort of bug in the GUI. Linux and your DAS are happy with each other. ![]() P.S. - You have an A-1 and a B-1 drive. How does the numbering go after 2 drives? C-1, D-1? Can there be an A-2? |

RE: NAS without RAID; jbod/standard/combined
From my experience the letter is the drive and the number is the partition. When I transferred a partitioned drive into the DAS I got A-1, A-2 and A-3 from the 3 partitions.
It would be useful to have some other input to find the root as the PCH should be happy with this device. T800 also has the same DAS, with mac formatted drives, but he uses it on a share. He's said if he gets time he'll hook it up to the PCH and see if he sees the same problem as I do. |

This is yours; Quote:/dev/sda1 on /opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/USB_DRIVE_A-1 type ext3 (rw,data=ordered) So device; sda1 becomes A-1 sda2 becomes A-2 etc. per partition sdb1 becomes B-1 sdc1 becomes C-1 etc. per drive Cool. Thanks. Ya, T800 would be handy at this point or even someone with another type of non-raid DAS. |

Saying that, I think occassionally the NMT can also get a little confused as I've heard people mention USB_DRIVE_B-5 etc and I can't see that people would have 5 partitions.

RE: NAS without RAID; jbod/standard/combined
Just to bring back this thread.
Just received a pm from Tate who has purchased a DAS400 with 2 1TB drives formatted to ext3 and doesn't observe the problems that I do... maybe my box is faulty? or my PCH? the only extra thing tate has done that I haven't is to use Code: tune2fs -m 0 /dev/sda1 |
